JRiver uses its own copy of MadVR and LAV ... so even you have those installed separately MC will not use them

The reason is stability ... MC uses version of MadVR that they feel is most stable (they do update time to time when they feel new version is stable enough for MC ... these updates come with MC new versions ... so no special button to update MadVR) ... I guess this avoids lots of weird problem associated with latest but often not so stable versions ... you will know when MadVR or LAV is updated when after installing new version of MC and playing video - it will say “downloading required component”

That being said ... you can manually replace copy of MadVR that MC uses (Hendrick will have my head for this lol) ... but expect no support for it if you have problem with it

So if you still want this ... first note the version of MadVR that MC is using now in case you need to revert back due to instability

I am not infront of my computer now so cannot tell you exactly ... but look into directory that looks something like this

/users/[your Windows user name]/AppData/Roaming/JRiver/Plugin/MadVR

That’s where MC stores it’s copy of MadVR ... copy/backup that directory (in case you want to go back) ... then replace it with version of MadVR you want

You do this ... you are on your own ... there will be no support from developers if there are problems

PS. I used to do it ... but then figured it’s not worth my time and effort

yes I understand MC has the MADVR built into its updates but once it  is finished, then the only options as far as I am aware is install MADVR manually or update to version 25

Not true ... likely MC25 is on same MadVR version ... and JRiver do frequently update both MC25 and MC24 ... so one of those updates might at one point include new  MadVR or LAV

I only update MadVR manually if there is particular feature I need ... last time I did cause they fixed 12bit output to TV ... and that did really nothing to improve picture quality ... placebo effect was great though :)

I am on 25.0.48 … MadVR that its on is v0.92.16 (I don't have MC24 anymore … so cannot compare)

My guess (!) they cannot keep up with all versions of MC … so likely only 25 and 24 gets most attention

latest public MadVR is v0.92.17 … so not far behind …

MC24 hasn't had any updates since March 2019. See Release Notes. JRiver doesn't keep updating MadVR for earlier versions that haven't had MC updates.

Maid is correct. If you are still using an older version, and want to get a newer version of MadVR you have to install it manually.

But why do you want a later version of MadVR maid? Must be something very specific. What version of MadVR and MC are you using now?

Darn ... I stand corrected ... then guess manual is the way to go ... or MC25

I jump to MC25 hoping that it will get SSA/ASS subtitle improvement

and JRiver do frequently update both MC25 and MC24

Just MC25. MC24's development ended several months ago.
