Please fix program freeze after pause bug!
« on: May 13, 2003, 09:07:37 am »

I work out of a home office and constantly pause MC in order to take phone calls.  As many others have reported, the program regularly freezes on restart - requiring closing of the program *and* terminating a lingering process.

This happens to me many times per day.  I might be wrong, but it seems worse in MC9 than in MJ8.

Please work on this one, it's killing my enjoyment of the program and may end up driving me somewhere else.

Thanks.

Please check one thing:

Are the files that cause the freezing in a "local" drive or in an "external" drive, such as Firewire drive or even lan drives. If they are in "external" locations (as I suspect) try moving some  files to a "local drive" and experiment with them pausing and resuming... Is the problem still there?

I think that the freeze after pause is due to a buffering problem with external drives. I experience the same problem as you but I think that only with non-local files.

Anyone else is experiencing the same behaviour?

I used to have this problem - I solved it by changing my audio output device in:
Tools -- Options -- Playback -- Output"

Try changing the "Mode" choice to something else.  I don't know what mine is now - I'm not at my own PC.   I haven't had any freezing problems since changing it on my system....

I have an almost similar problem:

Media center sometimes freezes when minimized to tray on resuming playback.

My steps before the crash:

1. Minimize MC to tray (playing a LOCAL mp3 file)
2. Rightclick on icon -> pause
3. Open windows media player and start playing media file
4. Close wmp
5. rightclick on MC tray and press play

MC then enters an endless loop with a few seconds of repeating music. Program is totally locked, can't do anything.

I guess this is a built-in punishment for using another media player?  ;)

Using soundstorm (nforce2) soundcard with latest drivers, directsound output mode.

So far i haven't been able to recreate this with wave out.

I have the same problem and I do not have external drives and did not start up another media player in between.
I also work from home office and have to pause quite often. Most times it resumes fine but about 20% of the time is crashes. Plays a 1 second blip of the song and then I have to restart program.

Hi,

Same problem here with only internal drives with or without crossfade and different buffer settings. The problem does not seem to be reproduced in the same way depending on the the pause delay.

Note: I don't pause that often but I tried several times yesterday after reading this thread. And yes I can confirm the problem.

Using MC9.0.171 here !

Have a nice day,
