G'Day Bigmuscles.
I understand your issue, although your posts are a bit "Stream of consciousness" and hence a but hard to follow.
What Jim is asking about is the settings on the server that will wake the PC. There are usually two configuration options for this, shown in the network (ethernet for you?) Configuration dialogue. One is the Magic Packet, and the other is Pattern Matching. I have both these enabled on my PCs. There is also usually a Link Speed setting for WOL, as it often needs to happen at a speed that is common for all hardware. i.e. 10Mbps, rather than the full 1000Mbps that is common these days.
But enough of that, as WOL is working on your LAN, so your settings are probably fine. I understand that when you restart the MC Client, it broadcasts WOL Magic Packets on the network, your MC Server sees those and wakes up. All good.
So, Bob did some work on this some time back, and I thought that he added WOL packets being sent when a Client PC that was running MC was woken. I thought I saw that working, but it wasn't consistent. I haven't checked if Magic Packets are actually being sent. Unfortunately, I gave up on pursuing the issue further, because it was taking lots of time. But I have seen recently that the issue is still there. In my case, I mostly have the issue when the HTPC MC Server goes to sleep underneath the Client when I am doing other stuff on the Workstation and not playing music. If I try using the MC Client it will sort of work, but slowly, as it is using the local cached/synced Library from the Server, and can't update or get updates from the sleeping Server. So some functions don't work, such as playing media. Only searches, Views, and other Library functions work.
So, I hear you.
One fairly simple solution for you situation, where the Client has actually gone to sleep, is to set up a task in the Windows Task Scheduler that is activated when the PC wakes up. The task should send either a MC Restart command, or perhaps just a Library load command, either of which should send the required WOL Magic Packets to wake your MC Server.
I haven't tried to set this up as my situation doesn't match yours exactly, so I haven't worked out the exact Task settings. I know having a Task run when a PC wakes is a little bit tricky, as it must be triggered by a Power State change, which isn't obvious in the settings. I have found it by Googling in the past. I also haven't tested which MC MCC command would be best, but that shouldn't be hard to work out and test.
Please have a go at setting up the Windows Task required. If you get stuck, ask for more help. I'll try to find time to work it out.
