How to import mp3 files from a hidden directory?
« on: May 09, 2003, 02:18:10 pm »

I downloaded and installed MC9 yesterday. So far it has been great. Now here's a question:

I have a CD with around 150 mp3 files in a hidden directory. I'd like to import them into the MC9 library.
But MC9 can't seem to show the hidden dir. And I can't find a setting to turn on displaying hidden dir too.
any ideas?

BTW, my windows xp explorer displays that hidden dir just all right.

The hidden dir is on a CD. That's why I can't change
the attribute of the dir.

Copy the Hidden Dir With Windows Explorer To The Hard Drive, Unhide It Import.

Or

Copy The Hidden Dir To The Hard Drive, Un-Hide It, Then Reburn The Dir To A New CD.

I have thought about copying the files to HDD before. But that's not a good solution for me. My HDD has limited capacity and I don't want those 600MB+ mp3 files sitting on my HDD all the time. I just want to access them and play them from the CD.
Burn it again? Hmm...CDR media are cheap. But somehow I don't like the idea of wasting an otherwise perfectly working CD. I am seeking a more elegant solution.
Is there something I can do on the MC9 side? I mean, not being able to see hidden files or dir is quite limiting...

My guess is that you've run into a limitation of MC's version of My Computer.  We never imagined this scenario.  Maybe we can fix it in the next version.

Importing the files thru windows explorer works. Thanks!

However, when I later want to upload those files to my ipod,
MC9 always crashes when I click on the ipod drive under
CD,DVD,&Handhelds. I was using 9.0.170. Upgraded to 9.0.172. Still crashes doing the same thing. I finally copied the files onto my HDD first, import those on the HDD, then upload to ipod. And guess what, everything is normal.

I think there is a bug in MC9 that leads to crashes when uploading files on a CD to ipod. I did the same experiment with
another CD (dir not hidden), same results.
