After Plug In Removal and Deletion - registration info lost
« on: August 16, 2019, 05:23:58 pm »

Hi.  Really not sure what to make of this one.

I'm trying out a VST Dirac Live plugin - Ok it's a beta.
After install it, everything is fine.
Issues start after uninstalling the plugin.
If I uninstall the plugin (from DSP manager), and then remove the plugin (windows uninstall) my JRiver registration info is lost.

You don't notice this until the next time JRiver starts.  It reverts to 30 day trial has just started or (usually) has expired.

I know it's not the machine because same issue exists on two separate windows systems.

Any suggestions?

Hi-
Can someone please take a look at this issue?

I'm currently testing this Dirac plug-in and it requires that I uninstall and reinstall every once in a while.
But every time I uninstall and reinstall the plugin JRiver's registration info somehow goes missing.

I don't think it's the plugin since it works fine after installation.  No crashes in JRiver.  No freezes occur. Only issue is after I uninstall and reinstall

I uninstall from JRiver
I uninstall from Windows.
I reinstall the new version
JRiver registration info is lost

I think there's something about removing plugins that is tripping up JRiver.

Not an urgent issue  (until I run out of reinstall keys)

I can't reproduce this.  Uninstalling a DSP plugin only does exactly that.

If you run out of restores, just post here and we'll reset you.

Hi Matt,

Thanks for testing.  Was hoping you'd find easy explanation
Just want to double check.  When you say you uninstalled - you removed the DLL from machine completely.

I'll turn on logging next time I need to update, but not sure when that will be.  For now I'm stable and haven't used up many installs.  If I run out I'll let you know.  Thanks!

Is it possible that when I delete the Dirac DLL for update, something with JRiver is running in background holding Dirac DLL in memory?  Then JRiver has an invalid handle to DLL that leads to problems?

Next time I update I'll double check task manager and reboot making sure JRiver is not running anything.

Other than that, the Dirac VST is early beta. Is there anything in loading or unloading specific to VST's (different from normal DLL) that could cause this?  If true, I could pass the info on to Dirac for them to take a look. They mention MC in their instructions, so I think they'd be very interested.
Thanks again

I have noticed registration info being lost on several occasions. I even told Deanna about it via email. I haven't figured out what is causing/triggering it, but it happened just a few days ago to me.
