MC importing same track repeatedly?
« on: August 28, 2019, 10:22:11 pm »

hi all,

tried to do a search but didn't find anything that sounded similar. i am encountering an issue where MC is auto-importing the same track repeatedly - a file that certainly exists and has a normal functioning version. the duplicate imports display no filename or most properties for that matter. i've attached a screenshot below, there are only 3 there but if i do not check it for a couple of days it can grow to 20 or more entries. of course deleting them does not prevent the ghost import from occurring again.

some potentially relevant context:
- files are stored on external USB 3.0 drive
- files were recently recovered from a potentially failing hard drive, but i haven't had any other issues. used rsync for the recovery transfer so in theory damaged or unrecoverable files would have been ignored. (besides the file it thinks its importing is actually fine)
- i have 2 separate libraries (both local) that i switch back and forth from, maybe once or twice a day

will start MC logging, hopefully something will reveal itself.

thanks for any thoughts!

Are they original files FLAC files?
Are there any Cue files in the same directory, or elsewhere?

Having the full original file and a Cue file that specifies how to break up the file can do that sort of thing. Someone recently also documented how a Cue Tag inside a file can work the same way a Cue file does, essentially showing one file as multiple tracks. I couldn't find that thread quickly, but it was recent, so a search could find it. But check all tags in the original file and see if there is anything unusual.

Have you been using iTunes?
Do you use any special software to make FLAC files playable in iTunes?
Are there any strange or unexpected files in the folder where the original audio file is stored?

bingo!

i actually noticed this earlier looking through the logs (attached), but it hadn't occurred to me that the cue file itself was literally just missing fields. MC log cue file is being expanded but track info is missing. open up the cue file and.. file and track name missing! thanks a lot for the explanation, that certainly makes sense.
