There seems to be problem with multichannel playback with non-bitstreamed source material < 6 channels.  The channels are not mapping to the correct output.

Channel mappings test out fine with sample tones
Channel mapping seems correct with bitstreamed DSD
However...
When playing FLAC < 6 channel OR non-bitstreamed DSD (downconverted to 96khz for Dirac processor) the mapping is incorrect
For example 4 channel maps to the first 4 channels of my DAC
So instead of playing to LF, LR, SL, SR source material plays to LF, RF, Center, LFE
5 channel maps to the first 5 channels of my DAC LF, RF, Center, LFE, SL
Surround Right channel has no output

To summarize testing:
Test signals (JRiver internal) play to proper channels
Test signal "Stay in Pentatone" calibration DSD source disk plays to proper channels (DSD bitstreamed)
So DSD bitstreaming seems correct

Is there something to be configured that I am missing??

Also, same files < 6 channel play with correct channel mappings via my Oppo.

Can someone please take a look at this?

Set DSP Studio to always output 5.1 or 7.1 (depending on your setup).

This is what I do at home and it works wonderfully.

Yes.  I've tried that and it seems to work.  But....
I really didn't want the mixing for this source material.
Just a personal preference, but I truly enjoy the 4.0 source material that I have. 

Is there really no way for JRiver to recognize the proper channel and send the output to the proper channel?

Then just disable JRSS.

We tell the output device the channel layout we're playing. Unfortunately the majority of PC-based audio output devices, be it HDMI or USB or what have you, will simply not care, and there is nothing we can do about that - except make it 5.1 or 7.1 to avoid this issue.

Setting the Output Format to your physical speaker configuraiton, and either letting JRSS do its mixing, or disabling JRSS (which will result in empty channel being added to make the appropriate channel layout) is the only reliable way to get it working with everything.
