Tag editing - replace nothing?
« on: May 08, 2003, 05:31:55 pm »

I can't find a way to replace a blank field.  (For example, the album field is blank, and you want to select the tracks and replace them all at once.)  If you try to use search and replace, it says you must enter something to search for.  Am I correct that there's currently no way to do this?

If not, could it be added to a future update?  Pasting the same info over and over in a bunch of tracks is no fun.

Thanks,
Lynn

There are numerous ways to do this.  The easiest way is to select all the tracks you wish to update.  After that, right-click on the field you wish to update and select "Edit Selected Field."  The change you make here will apply to all the files you have selected.

I'll let others described the other ways to do this.

Ah!  Okay.  I was looking for the way to do it in Library Tools.  Thanks for the help.

If you have multiple files selected, a change or addition in the properties window will be applied to all the selected files.

You can show the properties window by right-clicking and choosing Properties. Or using Alt-Enter. Or by putting its button on your toobar and clicking it.

Sometimes files are write-protected, so you can´t change the tags in the files. But in the library the tags were changed. Next time when you import files, the library reads the old tags...
Maybe its an idea to ask for taking away the write- protection before changing the tags ?!
