I know about JRiver's position about streaming services, but bundling a headless Spotify Connect client that allows to write directly to audio hardware and apply DSP would give me a reason to pay for a new MC version license. I'm sure I'm not alone. Yes I know about the WDM driver, but it is a kludge at best. Given Spotify Connect is available on numerous platforms it would seem they have a robust integration SDK available for third party use and it doesn't seem Spotify is going away any time soon. Can't be that hard...

WDM is no kludge.  It's a Windows audio driver.

Sad. I am aware of Cloudplay but haven't used it. I am a Spotify premium subscriber and happy with the service no plans to change it. Unfortunately there hasn't been a Windows Spotify Connect client that could output Spotify audio to ASIO or WASAPI exclusive interfaces and/or apply DSP. MC could fill that gap. WDM driver suffers from occasional clicks and pops when PC is under use for me, played with buffer settings to no avail.

WDM was greatly improved in MC24 (and MC25) so it should work pretty nicely there now.

I dunno, maybe the people who make the product can  patch a broken feature. Another thought. And this thread is not about the WDM driver.

This is not how it works with JRiver, but if it would, you did not pay for the support either.

I just checked V25/WDM with my Premium Spotify -
1) The good news is that it works
2) But, the sound does not justify my audio system.

Nice option though, having a background jukebox

Yeah, that's likely the bad thing about Spotify, the lossy streaming quality.

Honestly, if I was going to use a streaming service with the WDM driver, I'd use Qobuz or Tidal.

Unfortunately, I do not think that Tidal does has the sophisticated algorithms that Pandora and Spotify have to create a radio station on the fly based on a seed artist.  Not sure about Qobuz.

The radio function is what made Pandora so popular originally.  The company was founded based on research into selecting tracks that had a similar sound. They actually measured a large number (450) of characteristics and used them to determine the playlist. They now have 6 different ways to seed the radio station.  Those options with Tidal would be awesome.  Again, not sure about Qobuz.
