Fill Genre Field
« on: September 08, 2019, 12:11:39 am »

Hi,

I can't figure out where to write and run an expression to update the Genre field.

I'm trying to populate it based on Period + Sub Genre so that I get "Romantic - Piano Concerto" in the Genre.

I'm only using the Genre field for easier navigation on my mobile.

I want to try it out on a few tracks, test it on my mobile player and then reapply to the rest of my library if it looks ok.

Thanks!
Nicholas

Select a few test tracks and in the Genre field enter

=[Period] - [Sub Genre]

Is there a way to write an expression, save it and then run it against the whole database at a click of a button?
Like writing a script/macro in other apps.
It would be nice not to have to select chunks of files manually and then run the expression.

Create an expression column or a new field with an expression.

Provided you organize your media files into genre-based folders (e.g. 'Romantic Piano Comcerts'), you can have the 'genre' field auto-filled on import:
Go to "Options > Library & Folders > Configure Auto-Import", add your dedicated folder then click 'Edit' and under 'Apply these tags (optional) > Add > Custom' specify any field/value you wish, e.g. 'field=Genre' (to select from list), and 'value=Romantic Piano Concerts' (free entry).
