MC25 crashes when using more than 16 audio channels
« on: September 10, 2019, 01:13:05 pm »

Hi
I am running a 7.1 speaker system with digital xo and room correction using jriver mc 25. I am using jriver's bultin convolver and a 8x19 FIR filter built in Audiolense. If I set output channels to more than 16 (I need 20 to accommodate the 19 paths) mc 25 crashes. If I limit the channels to 16 the first 16 paths are outputted as expected. I have also tried a 8x15 filter and if I choose more than 16 channels mc 25 also crashes.  The filters works fine in Console using convolverVST which leads me to believe that the problem is somehow related to how mc uses the asio driver. I have two Echo Audiofire 12 cards giving me 24 output channels. OS is Windows 7 (x64).

I have tried mc 25.0.98 (x64), 24.0.75 (x64) and 25.0.98 (x86) with same result.

I hope someone can help me extract some information from the attached log files?

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Lars

We have this define:
#define ASIO_MAX_OUTPUT_CHANNELS      32

I'll look at the symbols you provided and see if I can see anything.

Thanks.

It looks like it's crashing in the DSP plugin.  Not sure where, but what if you try disabling all the DSP?

Will it play then?  I was able to play with 32 channels using the NULL output.

I enabled most of the DSPs as well.

Then if it works without the DSP on, how about making the convolution filter available to me for testing?  I'm matt at jriver.

Thanks.

Hi Matt

It also crashes with all DSP turned off.

Hi Matt

It also crashes with all DSP turned off.

Could you provide a crash dump showing that?

Thanks.

sidebar... you probably want to bear in mind this bug -> https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Convolution#Channel_Routing_is_Buggy_when_more_than_10_output_channels_are_present

I haven't noticed a fix but it was raised a while ago so best to verify if it is still present and/or applicable to your setup

no issues here playing to more than 16 channels using a real ASIO device with convolution active

Hi Matt

I still had the "Output format" checked. It does not crash if dsp studio is configured as shown in attachment

if you turn off output format then it won't convert the output to 20 channels

I sent you an email.  Let's discuss there for a bit.

Thanks.

The tempo DSP plugin doesn't work with over 16 channels.  We'll make it turn off instead of crash next build.

Hi Matt

Will the problem be fixed in a future build? I need the VideoClock (which uses the tempo DSP plugin) enabled in order to get smooth video playback.

Thanks,

Lars

Hi

Just wondering if this issue is going to be fixed any time soon?

Thanks,
