Media Center 9.0.171 available
« on: May 07, 2003, 09:15:12 am »

Media Center 9.0.171 is available:
ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaCenter90171.exe

History:
1. Fixed: Making the file properties window "windowed" could crash on some systems.
2. Changed: Popup menus now always flat style even on Win9x / ME.
3. Changed: Restructured list right-click menu somewhat.
4. NEW: Right-click MRU depth adjustable here: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JRiver\Media Jukebox\MRUCommandCount (0 to any number)
5. Changed: Left-clicking on a file in a list will select it for an F2 edit.
6. NEW: Added Send To -> Play -> Replace (shuffled) command.

Like the enw menu layout and the extend MRU tweak.  New F2 behaviour makes more sense too.  Nice one.

I don't get it...this is how MC's has always worked for me...where would I notice this change?

I am still seeing crashes whenever I pause the audio playback for more than a minute or two.  When hitting play again, it starts on a loop of the next 0.5 sec of the song and does this, without responding to anything else, until you kill its process.

I have had this happen quite a large number of times; have not tried to replcate it at home as I almost never use the pause button there (only use pause at work).

You had to right-click for the F2 location to be updated.  Now any click updates the F2 position. (same applies for the toolbar button, etc.)

Bugs:
1. The horizontal scrollbar on File Propertiy's Format tab is not skinned (when MEGA-ME skin is enabled).

2. MRU for right-clicked options is NOT remembered after an MC shutdown and restart!!!  Guess MRU change is this release broke history saving of those same items. [my goof...never been saved I've been informed]

Last post on this (I'll assume it's been registered)...

I've got dbl click behavior set to "Add to Playing Now (play next)". With nothing playing, I dbl click on a track in Media Library (say the 63rd track). MC copied the entire ML list into PN (order was retained) and started playing the song (#63) I had dbl clicked on. PN was cleared properly (in the past, sometimes it wasn't). Problem surfaces whether PN is empty or populated. Doesn't appear to happen if the "Start Playing when file..." box is un-checked. Note that problem is somewhat intermittant, but happens more often than not.

It's the last blemish (for me that is) on an otherwise fine program.

These have never been saved between sessions.  Maybe in a future version.

I still have a problem with one of my streaming files (I reported this problem two builds ago already):

I cannot play this file on the lastest MC'shttp://radio24.stream.green.ch/radio24.wax, other streaming files work

I uninstalled the MC and reinstalled it won't work.
But I tried with MC 9.0.152, then it works again.
I'm pretty sure that it broke on one of the early 160 builds.

Below I attached my config, maybe this will help.
Any other ideas? Currently I have to listen to this stream on Realplayer, which has no problem with it.

Thanks
Dom

This is a buffer under-run situation. Drop your burn speed to 2X and/or uncheck the "direct decoding" option.

Steve,

Still no joy moving my playlists to the IPOD.

I can play all my music from the media center itself, both from the library and the playlists.  But it simply will not sync to the IPOD.

It connects, runs through all the playlists, and then gives me a pop up window listing all the tracks it couldn't sync along with a message File Upload Error transferring...  then the tracks

I upgraded to 171 and it didn't help. :(

What is MRU?
and MRUCommandCount wasn't in my registry so I added it myself (as a string value) and tried a few different values with it. It seemed to make no difference inside of MC?
Please enlighten me!

It has to be a DWORD value.  It controls how many "Most Recently Used" items are shown on the right-click menu.

Thanks :)

Just changed it and it now works.

Great option.

I know you guys dont want any more options, but this is a feature everyone would love to be able to tweak to their own preferances I'm sure and so hiding it in the registry seems like destroying the option for everyone other than us freaks who follow this site on a regular basis (I have a life, honest!!).

As you've seen and heard on this site many a time, people LOVE Zoom player purely because it does have limitless options and gives the user ultimate control.
Lots of options are a great thing, not a bad thing.

THANKS for giving it to us as an option but please consider adding it to the options screen along with any other options that you have hidden in the registry :)

BUG:

Still present - search for media servers, it fails, click on exit when it brings up the window choosing which library to use and it crashes MC instead of defaulting to the last used one.

Still having a lot of problems with media server too.

It's running on this machine, the other machine found it once, now it's not finding it again either by searching or by entering the ip address and port directly as a new library. Finding it impossible to get it working.

ashmason,

Are the files you are transferring .mp3?

What happens if you drag and drop some of the files that are failing to the iPod icon and then click upload?

What happens if you synch a default playlist (i.e. Random One hour)?

I'll second the report.  My laptop running Win2KSP3 just did the same thing while playing an .mpc.  However, I only had it paused for ~30 seconds...

Steve,

You asked:

Are the files you are transferring .mp3?

>> Yes they are.  In frustration I loaded Music Match last night and synced my Ipod with that, no problem.

What happens if you drag and drop some of the files that are failing to the iPod icon and then click upload?

>>I get the same error message.

What happens if you synch a default playlist (i.e. Random One hour)?

>>Good Question, I will try this afternoon and let you know but suspect it will be the same error.

Taken from posting regarding build 170:

Quote
We can't easily make Media Center work with only Users permissions. We would have to make a lot of modifications in the source code as well as move registry entries and file locations.

We will change this in MC 10.

Nikolay

Can't believe this, MJ8 worked perfectly, MC9 not!! This is really not an improvement.

Which rights does MC exactly require? Or is it just looking for profile-typ of the user? Second one would be bad, because it is possible to define a new user-type in NT, I guess, so one could create a new type with limited-user-rights only extended for the rights required for MC.

So, which rights are required in detail?

Raist,

Media Jukebox 8 did not work with multiple users without modifications.

In order for MC to work we have to have to be able to access registry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHENE location. If access to read and write to the key fails MC will give a worning that user does not have enough rights to run the app.

Bugs (still):
1. MC does not remember column settings for CD, DVD & Handheld devices.  My test, on my CD-RW drive MC keeps reverting to some minimal default set of columns when I build a new burn list (data).  This is so frustrating as I keep having to add Artist, Album, Track #, Year and Bitrate back for every burn to view this data.  I am clicking Save Current View, but MC doesn't save squat (anything).

2. Send To (external) functions do not work for files on CD-Rom/RW drives (removeable media)...MC does insert the proper [filename] data (educated guess).

3. Drag-n-Drop support does not work for files selected on CD-Rom/RW (removable media) that are dragged and dropped to other Windows programs.

If I go to Encoding Options and choose MP3 Encoder from the list, I get prompted to download the MP3 Encoder plugin. Doing so results in a crash.

So fire up regedt32 and give the Users group read\write permissions to the LOCAL_MACHINE key and it should work? Or can you limit it to just the JRiver key under LOCAL_MACHINE?
