Dashes and ampersands in Search Wiz
« on: May 08, 2003, 04:51:03 am »

Hi to the MC Team,
Not a show stopper, but dashes and ampersands in the seach wizard cause it not to search accurately I can work round it ok, so this is just to let you know if you care to tweak it excellent if not no problem here. As always thankyou very much for a great programme

One thing I noticed is that it won't display ampersands in the search bar (leading dashes disappear, too). Displays it as a short underline (like a windows letter hotkey). Starting a search with an ampersand works but takes a few more letters than it should (but still works OK for me, just illustrating what he may be talkin about)...

Entering "& kr" brings up...

Alison Krauss & Gillian Welch - Ill Fly Away - O Brother, Where Art Thou
Alison Krauss & Gillian Welch & Emmylou Harris - Didn't Leave Nobody but the Baby - O Brother, Where Art Thou
Bela Fleck & VM Bhatt & Jie-Bing Chen - Radha Krsna Lila
Clint Mansell & Kronos - Entire Album - Requiem for A Dream
Clint Mansell & Kronos - Summer: Overture - Requiem for a Dream
Clint Mansell & Kronos - Winter: Winter Overture - Requiem for a Dream
Clint Mansell & Kronos - Lux Aeterna - Requiem for a Dream
Kronos Quartet - SQ no 3 - Grandmother & Kimitake - Performing Philip Glass
Lyle Lovett & Alison Krauss - Bury Me Beneath the Weeping Willow

What's happening is that the MC is not using the string literally. When entering "- king", the dash is ignored and all instances of king are brought up (instead of just "S:\ogg\Belly - King - Seal My Fate.ogg", for instance).

'dude...is my interpretation correct?

Hi Matt,
As xen-uno reported the & appears as a short underline when you copy and paste into the wiz, but if I( "shift 7"= &) directly into the wiz nothing shows up in the content view. As it happens I have very few Albums with an ampersand in the title.
The dash story is more tricky I will investigate a little further and report back.
Cheers Gerry

Quote
& appears as a short underline

Will be fixed next build.

And to use a minus in a search, you need to put it in quotes / brackets.  Otherwise MC thinks you're saying "NOT" (i.e. -rock means NOT rock)
