Ripping CD's - External CDROM drive

When I rip CD's I use and external cdorm drive.  My issue is that I have to close MediaCenter after each rip in order for the cdrom to read the new cd inserted.  This issue seems to come and go with each update.

Anyone have a way to make the device re-read correctly?  Refresh does nothing, ejecting the cd does nothing only stopping and restarting MediaCenter seems to work.
