JRiver for Android question
« on: November 08, 2019, 03:26:13 am »

Hi,

I am still searching for a good solution that will allow me to send native DSD to my receiver while also having a nice GUI. I can use e.g. Bubbleupnp on my Android phone to send DSD to my receiver and it sounds great. Now I'm just trying to find a way to get a nice GUI as well. To that end I was thinking... Would it be possible to use JRiver for Android on my Nvidia Shield TV to send audio to my receiver? And how do I connect my devices? Because at this point the Shield is connected to my receiver via HDMI and I assume that this will be the connection used then? And in that case I'm pretty sure that the audio will be converted to PCM.

Any advice/insights would be appreciated. I hope it is clear what I'm trying to achieve.

If your receiver can decode DSD, you could play from MC running on Windows, Mac, or Linux, but use one of our remotes to control it.  The wiki has a topic on Remotes.  Read about DSD and Bitstreaming there.

Hi Jim,

Thanks for the reply. I can definitely do this from my phone or tablet, no problem. Just like the idea of the pretty interface on my TV. If only DSD over HDMI was an option ;-)

Unfortunately, I don't think this will ever happen as I don't see any of the computer GPU vendors (AMD, Nvidia, Intel, etc.) supporting DSD in their drivers. DSD over HDMI only works for SACD players (like an Oppo or a Sony Blu-Ray/DVD/SACD player or something like that) connected via HDMI to a receiver (like a Marantz, etc.).

I don't work for JRiver... I help keep the forums safe from "male enhancements" and other sources of sketchy pharmaceuticals.

Agreed. Which is why I'm trying to find a workaround. Guess I'll have to compromise. At least sound is really, really good. Will just have to live with a less sexy UI.
