MC 25 crashes during auto import
« on: November 15, 2019, 07:27:57 am »

Just updated to MC 25 on two WIN 10 machines.  During auto-import from a NAS of about 15000 files, both computers crash after 300-700 imports. (Not importing at the same time).  The files that have made it to the library are there on restarting MC,, but when running auto import again, same thing.

Any suggestions?  Thanks in advance.

Bad files, perhaps?

On the wiki, there is a topic called Logging.  You can read the previouslog.txt after a crash.  Start at the bottom of the log and look for "crashing".

Jim, no antivirus running.  Older versions of MC work okay.  I've got a Logging text, but it makes no sense to me.  Now, only getting about 2-50 files loaded prior to crash.

The crash is in TV code.

Maybe try turning TV off in Options > General > Features > TV?

Thanks Matt, tried that and got about 30 files in before crashed again.  Changed ethernet cables to the router and no joy.  Interesting that MC 20 loads without hiccups.  Other features I should consider disabling?

You're running Win10, so take a look at the Windows Defender thread on the forum.

You're using the 32 bit version of MC.  Try the 64 bit build.

Try re-installing MC25.  Pay attention to any Windows notifications during installation and during start up of MC.  If Windows blocks some actions during the process, make sure you take care of it by allowing the actions.

Update:

Removed MC 25, rebooted and reinstalled.  Assured 64 bit programs running on 64 bit machines.

No hang ups or warnings during installation on either machine.

Replaced ethernet cables

Turned off Windows Defender elements

On both machines can only log about 15-20 files before crash.  No warnings, nor error messages on the crash.  Interestingly one machine shows a ratio of files logged/files available.  The other machine just shows files logged.

All other networked systems working as expected.  And older versions of MC are importing correctly.

Turning off Windows Defender isn't enough.  Here's how to configure it:

Okay, taming Win Defender was very useful.  Thank you.

I also had luck by configuring only one folder (with a bunch of subfolders) for import, rather than using the watch feature.  I'm up and running now and will tame defender on the other machine.

Thanks for the support.
