Theatre View TV Guide Navigation issue
« on: July 19, 2018, 09:45:27 am »

While you're at it, please take a closer look at the cursor jumping way off to the right when scrolling down in the guide. It was improved by not fully resolved. It still jumps way to the right, especially when using Page Up/Down.

Be happy to provide cell phone video examples. Happens EVERY time I use the guide. Server and Clients.

That might help.  Please do.

Cursor doesn't stay to the left edge, just using down arrow button in this example:

I can't reproduce that behavior anymore.

It looks like it'll end if there's a program that finishes off the guide view eg longer than 2.5hrs.

For instance today there are a couple of 6hr plus sports broadcasts on in Oz. If I scroll up on the guide from either of them, highlight goes to the right, and in fact I can scroll to the top with the highlighted program not even visible for most of it...

I watched the video again.  It appears that the cursor started out at the 9:00 AM column.  Did you enter Theater view for the first time and the channel with the program "Music Choice Soundscapes" is your first channel?  The behavior shown in the video is correct if the initial selection is for a 9 AM program.  The cursor should stay with 9 AM column.

Let me explain.  Way back in the past, we used to anchor selections on the middle of each cell.  That did not work well when there are super long programs.  I thought it might help if we anchor to the left edge of the cells.  It turned out, we have the same issue.  Imagine you are on a program that starts at 9 am and ends at 9:30 am.  So the selection is well defined.  You go downward to the next channel, but the program on the new channel started several hours ago, say 1:00 am and is still going.  What do you do?  Showing the left edge of that program would mean jumping to the left several hours.  Then you go further down, to the third channel, where to you go?  Do you select the 1:00 am show on the third channel, or the 9 am show?  To avoid jumping back and forth horizontally, I decided not anchor to left edge, nor the center, nor the right edge, of the selected cell.  Instead, we will stay at the same time line of previously selected cell.  So in the example above, going from a 9 - 9:30 am show to the next channel, we will select the program that starts at 1:00 am and is still going at 9 am, but do not jump to the left.  When going to the third channel, we will stay at the 9 - 9:30 line and select the cell that covers the time line (it might be an 8 - 9:30 am show, or an 9 - 12 show, thus the cursor will jump slightly left or right, but will stay within the view).

I hope this makes sense to you all.

Yaobing,
It works great when using up/down buttons, but when using Page Up/Dwn the same issue is still happening (cursor jumps way to the right). I've brought this up a few times (page up/dwn not fixed), but gotten no response.... Any chance you can fix Page up/dwn as well?

Thanks

That was the reason I split this topic from the other thread.  I am investigating.

I have made a number of fixes in version 26.  Theater View guide navigation should behave much better now.

Page up/down is better but still not perfect. If page down is the first key(s) pressed after guide, it still jumps to the right and continues to stay to the right until I press down arrow, then it kicks it back to the left and stays to the left, even when using page down. So it is imperative that page down is NOT the first button(s) pressed. As long as down arrow is the first button pressed, page down/up will behave correctly there after.
