JRiver starts importing audio files and then gets to a certain file and freezes. After few minutes windows crashes. Just upgraded to 25 and want to try the HDCD. I have a large drive 10tb with about 8tb of files on it. Not sure if that's a factor but considering the import doesn't get very far, Import is fine as long as I don't analyze audio. Any help appreciated.

Turn on logging. The wiki has a topic.

When it crashes look at the previous log. At the bottom, look for "crashing". Check for filenames there.

Antivirus could be the cause.

Check your temperatures if analyzing audio is causing the crash.

change the # of files to be analyzed down to 4 at a time, don't try to analyze all at once, try smaller batches

My PC was crashing because the cpu was overheating. Any way to reduce the speed of “analyze audio?” I am using a Nofan cpu cooler and it’s not keeping temps down.

Sounds like that NoFan cooler doesn't give enough adequate cooling for the CPU under load. Doing a little bit of quick research, it looks like NoFan sells passive coolers with no fans... which honestly isn't a good idea, even for the sake of trying to achieve a quiet, fanless system. You can find coolers with fans that are barely audible however you can also control the fans to your liking, undervolting them to run at a lower RPM for example. I'd rather deal with a little fan noise (ramping up when CPU usage increases) rather than having my CPU overheating and thermal throttling while using a passive fanless cooler. Plus there's other ways to reduce noise in a system like acoustic padding in the case, for example.

I am using Roon trial . Selected 1 core and temps stay down as it analyses audio. I know I can buy a new cooler with a fan. I was wonder if JRiver could do same thing. The Nofan cooler was working well until I installed a large gpu blocking air flow to one side. That’s what is likely causing problems. The Nofan cooler has worked well for years. It’s a great product if it has adequate air flow.

Well, in MC if you right click on a file or files, then go to Library Tools > Analyze Audio... in that dialog at the bottom there is an option to choose how many files are analyzed at a time. Try setting that to one.

Yeah, that could do it. Even so, I find passive coolers like that without fans to be just a recipe for disaster, IMO.

That said, a computer that can not be run at 100% CPU for medium lengths of time (double digit minutes at least) is not worth having in my opinion.  You probably ought to fix that.  Just my opinion.

I’m not sure what has happened. The Nofan 95r kept temps around 68 degrees with all cores running decoding SACD when I first installed it. That’s more intense than analyze audio. I’m guessing no one on thread has tried it so a passive cooler seems a logical cause. It’s been cooling my i7 4790k well for years running MadVR and all. It’s huge. This. If you just installed a large GPU you may have bumped the Nofan and compromised the thermal paste, hence less cooling.

The other issue to look at is your power supply. A larger GPU drawing more power from a power supply that was on its limit already can result in voltage instability, which can result in a hotter CPU. Use the OuterVision Power Supply Calculator to check if your current hardware is overtaxing the power supply.

Of course, it could just be the reduced airflow that is the problem. But if you just remove the larger GPU your may be masking a stressed power supply condition. I would do the paste and leave the larger GPU in for now, and check the power supply.
