Installing MC26
deepspace56:
Jim, Thanks. Sorry for the additional questions. I've begun by making a copy of my MC 22 from the old laptop onto an external hard drive. The folder that I copied is labelled "Media Center 22". I've then copied and pasted that folder from the external drive into "Program Files" on the new laptop. This seems to have gone OK, and I can see the folder (and it's subfolders if I look) on the new laptop.
If I click on it though, it doesn't open the MC 22. How do I do that? All this is in preparation to upgrade. Am I going about this all wrong?
Thanks again.
JimH:
Don't copy any program files from your old machine. Just install MC22 and restore your library and your license, then upgrade to MC26. You can probably just install MC26, and restore your license and library, then purchase the upgrade.

Jim, Please bear with me. I've upgraded to MC 26 and downloaded to my new laptop. Now, when I try to restore the library, as you suggest, it tells me that I don't have a valid option. I guess I need to somehow get the library off my old laptop? Do I do this under "load a library" or some other option?
Thanks again
JimH:
Backup in MC22 on your old machine. Note the location of the backup zip file. Copy the zip file to your new machine and restore from it.
There are wiki topics. Here's one:

OK. I've done this, and I seem to have MC 26 running on the new laptop, with the retored library (from the zip file).
However, when I plug in the external hard drive, the tracks won't play because the external hard drive was labelled as E: by the old laptop, but the new laptop calls this external drive D: Can I get my local library to look on drive D: for the audio files instead of looking for them on drive E:?
How can I point the library to the D: drive? Thanks. I tiied changing Tools>Options>File Location, but that doesn't work for the playback. Thanks again
