CD Ripping is slow
« on: January 21, 2003, 09:44:31 am »

How can i speed up my cd ripping.  my machine is a 500mhz celeron which is fine for serving up music but really sucks when ripping cds.  it takes 20 minutes to rip a cd using 192 bit mp3 compression.  my cd reader is 24x.  any help would be appreciated.

What seems slow..ripping or encoding? Assuming you have a recent build, then it's using the LAME encoder, which while producing very good sound files is kind of a pokey encoder (as compared to ogg). Try using the MP3 Encoder VBR (set to Normal or Normal/High), see if that speeds things up.
