Crash Reports with MC26.0.14
« on: December 16, 2019, 03:32:11 pm »

We had a rough time with the first build we released:
https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,123392.0.html

But 26.0.14 seems to be working.
https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,123399.0.html

If you still have a problem, make sure you're using 26.0.14.

I found that the latest (115?) build of MC25 would crash on autoimport. I then installed this build of MC26 with the same license and all was well. Great fix to all the issues of the previous build.

Black screen then hang
« Reply #2 on: December 21, 2019, 02:29:57 pm »

Black screen then hang trying to playback tv show (.ts file). Was watching live tv channel in theater view, pressed stop, went to recorded shows, selected "CBS News at 10p" tv show, press play, only got audio and black screen, tried remote buttons Jump Forward a few times then STOP a few times, no response, then audio went into a loop/repeating noise, had to CTRL-ALT-DEL where it said MC not responding, killed process. After restarting MC, the same file played back perfectly.

Yesterday I setup a separate Zone for Music and ZoneSwitch, if that matters. But it's been working all day yesterday and this morning.

Attached edited log file, beginning just before playback/hang occurred, and included system info.

I attempted to re-analyze my 200,000+ audio & video files to take advantage of the new waveform feature. Got about 2/3 done and then my library became corrupted and I lost all views. Fortunately I made a backup before starting but it was pain to recover because I had to redo all the changes I made over several days while the analysis was running. My hardware is perfect and beefy. If I had to speculate it has something to do with the new Waveform field becoming very large for large libraries. I think (but am not sure) that the file "field (waveform).jmd" was over 200MB when things blew up. Suggest you do more stress testing with large libraries.

Also noticed that some (not all) of my online ifo dvd's were causing problems for the new analysis feature. Analysis status did not stop at 100% (as it did in the past) but kept going to 1000's of % complete until I noticed the thread was running unhinged. I would then stop the analysis, remove the problematic dvds, and resume the analysis.

I do not know if the two problems are related. I'm guessing not.

26.0.14 …. HUNG/Crashed/Black Screen 5 times (maybe 6) yesterday. Last time was when closing using the red box with the X in upper right corner. 25 was starting to hang more frequently the last 3 months.  I've waited over 30 minutes a couple time to see if it would catch up, sometime it will, mostly not. Is there a log I can get for you to help trouble shoot? Also seems to be getting worst the more I add to library, I have about 37,000 video files and 25,300 audio files. Added about 100 video yesterday. Hung a couple of three times while working on TAGS. When HUNG uses 13.7 -20% of PROCESSOR, small amount of memory in use. The current Hardware should keep up.
W10pro-64bit, i7-6700K (average clock 4.17), 64g RAM, Nvida 1080 GPU  C: 512g Samsung 950Pro (over provisioned to 428g) F: 152TB (55.3 free) G: 70.9TB (17.6 free) J: 49TB (35 free), REAL CRAPPY Internet.
> Also could you please fix the one click random play when I select AUDIO TAB, I now have to drill in a couple layers w/26.
> OH yah... Is there a way to tag audio files to "SKIP" in shuffle play mode? (iTunes had this)  Also can I stitch tracks together to restore " a Trilogy" e.i. some of the Beatles - Abby Road or Robert Palmer - Sneaking Sally tracks 1-3 should play as one "song" per the vinyl or CD.

Hallo. I too have found MC 26.0.14 (64-bit) more crashy than normal recently. I just uninstalled all MCs from my media PC (Win 10 Home) having followed the backup procedure in the pop-up. Yesterday, having added the video folder (default), it crashed every time. It will import a few files then go completely unresponsive. The only way I have found to get it working again is to remove the video folder from the auto-import.

Oddly, it reports a small amount of video when navigating through the video heading - some 39 files 3.3GB. But since that folder actually contains 39 folders, 254 files 96.8GB it's all a bit baffling.

If you are having frequent crashes, we always appreciate crash reports so we can investigate them. Enable logging (see wiki), and after a crash happened provide us with the log package, and we'll be able to look into them!

Jeez, that's a boatload of hardware.

As to "auto" skip, not sure if this will do what you want, but; I set rating "stars" to 0 for tracks I don't want to include (duplicates, bad quality, just don't like them) and then construct a shuffle playlist that only plays tracks with one or more stars. Of course you can include whatever else you want in the playlist.

Agree it would be great to be able to "stitch together" tracks for single playback.

A freeze (lockup) is different than a crash.  Let it run.

If your trial period is up, that's a problem.  You need the most recent build to work with an MC26 license.

I apparently have logging enabled. Attached is the log file going back ……. a long time? See things in there that were done awhile ago (months). Reset logging after saving this.
Just want to stress.... FREEZE, curser turns into spinning blue ring. If I try anything/curser movement, screen washes out and I get a pop-up/window "MC not responding" and a choice to close or wait. I usually give it a few minutes to respond, have waited 30 minutes a couple + times, If it recovers it's within 60seconds. It has also just closed, can't get what happened last (click, item, etc.) I usually CTRL_ALT_DELET to access task manager before closing. I'll see CPU usage at 13+ % and "not responding" or <2 - 0% CPU and "not responding" for MC. Other processes using 0 - 5% of CPU total (5 is high). Still have a lot of free memory.
I've had it hang when trying to get show/movie INFO.  Could It be getting hung because a non-responsive web site (crappy internet)? Are background processes accessing internet, (after a large number of files added)? I regularly see cover art change (which is a nuisance, as it will pull wrong title, crappy artwork or wrong language after I've already corrected it).

Forgot to include.....
Get the Black Screen too, usually I'm clicking STOP as the credits are ending on a Blu-Ray (4K). I'm wondering if I'm catching it as it changes files (movie to Corp Logo) and jacking it up? But still....shouldn't happen

If the trial is expiring, you didn't get the MC26 license installed correctly.  Please read this:

JimH..thanks but..I BOUGHT (PURCHASED) MC25 in August....there was NO trial period...installed and used with no problems (except for the HUGE learning curve)....bought (purchased) MC26 upgrade in October...installed mid-December...so when I get the "your trial period has ended' screen,,it IS a bit confusing....Must have installed MC26 correctly or it wouldn't work at all..and it was pretty easy...did read forum you suggested BEFORE upgrade to 26...will keep forging ahead  (ever think about a "JRiver FOR DUMMIES" book)?...thanks for all the replies...Paul

Your posts will also be easier to read (and hence more likely to be read) if you use a period at the end of a sentence, not the ....

MC losing its registration can be caused by several things, things like the PC's hostname changing, WiFi Mac address randomization feature in the OS, perhaps even an incorrectly set system clock could potentially cause it.

Just tried this and it is working as expected here.
Seems to be related to Soundspectrum Aeon / GForce. Once those are uninstalled, everything is working fine. Strange, the same combination works on my Laptop, which is also win10 64bit /MC 64bit.

Raised a support ticket with soundspectrum.

UPDATE: so in looking over a log file (not that I can understand it) I noticed that my UPGRADE to 26 was not 64bit.
So I un-installed (took out 24 at same time, 25 still installed) and installed the 64bit version MC26.0.14.
Things in general are better, left it open/running since the install (the 1st?)  Tonight it hung when stopping a Blu-ray, menu was running. Left it for a minute or two but no response, Task manager showed not responding. The other issue was some tagging errors that were pretty constant, hope they show in log, also included screen shot. So attached is a pile of info I hope helps. Haven't installed MC26.0.15 yet.

This is annoying. Just fought thought uploading logs for an hour+, kept getting bounced and I have crappy Internet. How do I post two logs at 32,296KB and 4,032KB? Also have tag error report MC created, Tag error.rtf, how do I upload this? recopied to word as and created a .docx but can't send that either.

Just updated to MC26.0.15.
First thanks for fixing the one click play on the audio tab.
2nd Last night the second Blu-ray hung when stopping the menu loop. Movie had ended and started looping menu to access bonus material (I gave it a solid 15 minutes to recover before forcing it to close.) I saved the log before upgrading to MC26.0.15. Do you want that log as well as the other two logs that are to big to post?
3rd In hind sight the TAGGING issue may have started throwing errors after I changed the file locations (cover art) from default after the 64-bit install. The tag errors were for files I wasn't even modifying. May have corrected it's self after a re-start. Haven't modified tags or imported files in the last few days.

Cracked it. I saw the recent upgrade to 26.0.18 so thought I would test again. Instant crash when trying to import default system video library. Backed library up, uninstalled, downloaded afresh from JRiver, same behaviour. Lightbulb. I moved all the videos out of the default folder and no crash. I then moved my videos (thankfully in a folder structure) one folder at a time back into the default videos folder and waited for JRiver to see them until I found the ones that caused an issue. There were two BBC iPlayer downloaded files from 2017. They claim to be .mp4 but nothing plays them - not JRiver, the Windows player, vlc. My guess is they're copy-protected / encrypted in some way that JRiver doesn't like. Or they're time-expired in some way (BBC iPlayer has a time limit to view).

I don't consider this a fault, I'll just delete them (or I can send you for research if you want) I can't even remember what they were :)

The only other (slight) issue which I will investigate some other time is that Windows File Explorer tells me there are 246 files and 109GB of Video but JRiver only reports 154 / 73GB. But the ones it does see play fine and it doesn't crash so I'm happy.

Thanks guys.

"Link Tracks",  "stitches" together tracks so they stay in sequence when you move them to Playlists or shuffle tracks.

View the tracks, highlight them, then right click, select "Library Tools>Link Tracks.
