Upgrading from W7 to W10 anything special required?
« on: December 18, 2019, 03:10:36 am »

Hi all,

Rather than reimage I'm just going the lazy route and upgrading directly from W7 to W10.

Is there anything special I need to do in MC to ensure the upgrade does not affect usability?

Apart fro back up the library obviously.

I just did this. I used the free W10 upgrade directly from MS. I think I needed to reinstall MC but can't remember.

Ok thanks so nothing catastrophic. Does W10 come with more drivers or should I download them for all the hardware prior to upgrade?

I'd download network drivers, just to be sure.

I didn't download anything ahead of time. I did do a system image first just in case. After the upgrade I updated my Nuc's video driver with one directly from Intel to try and get rid of an annoying problem of my windows being moved and resized when waking the monitor. It worked for a while. Now I try and leave the machine on an empty virtual desktop and everything is fine.

This is my first time having virtual desktops. I know that W10's implementation isn't as good as others but I really like it.

I just did an upgrade from Win7 to Win10.

I created the USB install media with Microsoft Media Creation Tool, and upgraded in place.  I did not do a wipe and reinstall. (I also disconnected the network cable so I would not be prompted to create a Microsoft account, I prefer local accounts.)

After getting Win10 somewhat under my control, I proceeded to fire up Media Center.

I was told it was installed under different version of the operating system, and that I needed to do a reinstall.

So I downloaded the current version of MC25 for Windows, installed it.  I did not need to re-register Media Center.

Media Center is working fine.

The world is a happier place with music in the background.   :D
