RME ADI-2 DAC fs - Amazing!
« on: December 20, 2019, 06:32:16 am »

Hi All

Bought myself a new early Christmas present.  The ADI-2 DAC fs DAC/HP AMP is simply amazing. :)

Using with ASIO drivers it just plays anything you throw at it, upto 768kz and DSD256 native or DoP.
My iBasso DX220 is a bit glitchy when used as a desktop DAC but ADI-2 just works.

The AKM AK4490EQ DAC chip is a little bit smoother and fuller sounding than the Sabre ES9028PRO DAC chips in my iBasso DX220.

Lots of useful filter modes too from SD Sharp to NOS (no over sampling) if that tickles your fancy. :)

Playing DSD64 from JRiver on PC to Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 connected to ADI-2 via OTG and with USBAPP as DLNA renderer.

Thank you for posting this.  I think this will be my next DAC.  I don't use headphones but have supergood speakers etc. and this looks like a great match.  Thanks!

I just bought one, due to arrive tomorrow, but not sure how to get the asio drivers.  Did they automatically come with the drivers supplied (dl) from REM?  So far I don't see any asio options on my JRiver.  I installed the drivers on a local machine, but they may not operate until the hardware is installed.
Anyway, thanks for the lead, and I'm looking forward to the install.

I understand the ADI-2 DAC has no volume control when playing native DSD files.
I play PCM files from my laptop to my ADI-2 DAC, using JRiver. The DAC is connected to my power amp and this system works very well. But I cannot play DSD files, unless I use DoP.
Do I need an analog preamp in order to be able to play native DSD files?

I just received mine a few days ago and love it! It's more transparent, detailed, spacious, and dynamic than the DAC built into my McIntosh MA9000 integrated amp. It works flawlessly with JRiver MC26 for Mac, especially with DSD 256 files (the Mac version of Audirvana didn't like them--the music skipped and stuttered something awful.) It might not be the sexiest beast around, but it certainly sounds superb and works well.

Do you have the DA1 or DA2 Dac Module inside the McIntosh MA9000?

Well now, here's an interesting development. I started to get a bunch of dropouts when playing DSD files on my MacBook, but when I plugged my HP laptop into my MA9000's DAC, they went away and it sounded better...all of the initial improvements plus a bit richer overall. I guess I got a bad one, so I'm returning it and will stick with the MA9000's DAC.

I bought one for my Home Office!

I got it yesterday. I installed the rme ASIO Drivers, they show up in MC and it was simple plug and play.

Playing DSD files there are several possibilities:

1. Let MC convert DSD to PCM and make use TDPF dithering in MC
2. Let the ADI-2 convert DSD to PCM
3. Use DSD Direct no change but also No DSP and Volumecontrol possible

So far I had no problems.

The ADI-2 USB input has galvanic isolation, it is much less sensitive to EMI and cabling compared to my Devialet, I played around with USB cable shipping with the ADI-2 and an Audioquest Cinnamon.

Sound of the Headphone Amp is of similar quality then my Devialet. But that was not the goal why I bought it.

I still love mine.  I use it almost every day (certainly have during ISO)

I move it around the house and use an ipad as USB source.
Plays back everything glitch free even from ipad.
