I swear I'm going nuts,
I thought I'd posted this this morning but I guess I forgot to click on the 'post' button.

I downloaded and installed Girder this morning but cant seem to get it to work? It's not showing up in the plugin manager.

Any tips suggestions?

I even clicked on the add plugin button and browsed to the installed dll and selected it but it didn't come up?

Please help!~

The Girder "plug-in" is really for Girder itself. Nothing special is needed for MC. Post is called "Girder Explained" (in case you haven't found it).

Well, from what I could deduce from the many conversations and my own experience, the "girder" plugin for MC allowed girder to communicate through the plugin, vice SendMessage to the application.  I found it to be quite dependable - when it could be installed.

It would seem no one is using it any longer...  has anyone been able to get it to work?

I still have some unresolved issues from the thread http://www.musicex.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=MediaCenter;action=display;num=1051379817;start=2#2:  mostly that I can't send keyboard events to the MC application when it's in HS or full-screen.

I had the Girder Plugin installed long time ago (early January or February) and never uninstalled it by myself.

But it also appears not to be there any longer, so I assume that it must have been uninstalled by some MC9 installation at some point! Is that correct?

You wouldn't be able to tell from inside MC whether it is installed or not, but you should be able to from Girder.

yes. I know that path, but there you only find the input file (GML) for Girder. I was writing about the original Girder-Plugin that you could download and install with the help of the MC9 Plugin-Manager. And as far as I can remember, there was some kind of girder.dll somewhere! I might be wrong, so maybe somebody from J River could shed some light on the difference between the old implementation and the new implementation.
Technically speaking  you cannot really speak of a plugin now, as you only need an input file (gml) for Girder and MC9 detects the commands that Girder detects. Hope I explained it correctly.

Same thing happened to me.  I don't remember when it disappeared.  I wish I could get it back!

A bit of history to clarify a few things:

1) Girder is actually a separate application. It uses a file called a GML to define what actions are taken when certain events are received. Girder uses a plugin architecture itself to deal with various pieces of hardware and to extend the program's functionality with additional commands and responses.

2) The MJ Girder plugin was created for MJ8 and isn't required for MC9. For me, the plugin broke in MC9 when all the registry changes went into place. I tried creating the registry paths manually, but the plugin still didn't work. I haven't found the need for it since Matt opened up the core with the MCC commands. I believe the plugin was originally created to provide a handful of common commands and to handle some elementary targetting.

This doesn't match with my experiences...  when I had the MC girder plugin installed, I used it as a target in Girder.  In the Girder "target selector", I had the choice of "MJ Girder Plugin" for Class Name.  I could then use Girder's "Command" to send the WParam and LParam values to MC, *regardless* of MC's state (that is, MEGA, MINI, or Hairstyle).  In fact, I had gotten a .gml (from Girder's Website or from a French-named person on one of the Girder forums???) that already had the LParams for all the common commands.  The "Group" name was "Media Jukebox 8".

Using the Girder plugin, I had the added benefit that I could just as easily send keystrokes to MC - the most important for me being the "menu" key to toggle the hairstyle (in full-screen mode).

Again, if there were MCC_COMMANDs for every keyboard shortcut *and* the SendMessage to the MC application worked regardless of MC state, then I'd agree there's no user for the Girder plugin.  If you can help (me) get the SendMessage working in Hairstyle, I'll be halfway towards being happy - and most grateful!!!

I also seem to remember there being a short period when MC first came out that the plugin didn't work - I think I remember Jim saying they hadn't gotten around to making the plugins "MC" compatible.  It seems a week or two went by and then the plugin installed just fine.

Well, I apologize.  It seems that Girder is now sending commands to MC regardless of state when using the SendMessage.  So I'd just need an MMC_COMMAND for "toggle hairstyle" or to get the keyboard events to MC.
