JRiver 26 Repeatedly Crashing Caused By in_mp4.dll
« on: March 22, 2020, 12:18:38 pm »

Hi. I am having an issue with using the latest builds of JRiver. I am running Windows 7 SP1 64-Bit, and I am using the most recent 64-bit build, as can be seen below. After about half an hour of use (give or take), JRiver crashes. I reload it only to have the issue repeat, time and time again. According to the Windows Event Viewer, the in_mp4.dll file seems to be the cause. I've seen various reports on this forum spanning various versions with the same file as a common cause of this program crashing. The most recent thread on this topic says there was a fix in MC26 for this exact issue, so I am really wondering why I am still having this issue.

Here are the unaltered details from the Windows Event Viewer:

Faulting application name: Media Center 26.exe, version: 26.0.35.0, time stamp: 0x5e6b9354
Faulting module name: in_mp4.dll, version: 26.0.35.0, time stamp: 0x5e6b9244
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x0000000000086d87
Faulting process id: 0x5c3c
Faulting application start time: 0x01d6006529b7ba8d
Faulting application path: C:\Program Files\J River\Media Center 26\Media Center 26.exe
Faulting module path: C:\Program Files\J River\Media Center 26\Plugins\in_mp4.dll
Report Id: cc35d6ce-6c5b-11ea-9c8d-342387b77864

I'm attaching the logs and the dump file from the most recent crash to this thread, as well.

Also, here's the Google Drive link to the full crash dump I generated using Windows Task Manager:

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

It's Sunday and nobody knows the answer.

Antivirus causes a lot of crashes.

Take a look at the Weird Problems thread in my signature.

We don't work on weekends, and we can't guarantee a response to every issue within a few hours even during weekdays. We'll look at it during business hours next week.

My apologies. I thought this was a more common issue. It may have been wishful thinking, but I since I thought it was a common issue, I was expecting a quicker response. Thank you for replying.

Your information did point us to something that we believe caused the crash.  We are not entirely sure though because we can not repeat the crash on our computers (maybe it has to do with some specific mp4 files that you have).

Make sure you test again when you see the following history item when an upcoming new build is out:

Fixed: Some MP4 files could cause MC to crash.

Ok. Thanks so much. Just so you know, JRiver crashes about 30 minutes (give or take) after launch, whether active or idle. I believe I mentioned that already. On a whim, I added an exception for JRiver to my antivirus (Kaspersky Total Security), however that didn't help. Again, thank you so much for your help.
