How to play music from home on my cellphone outside?
« on: January 24, 2020, 06:43:30 am »

Hello

I think there is such a feature, I've never used it before.
Can I use JRemote for that, or it works just inside the home network?

How does it work basically? When I connect JRemote with the 'access key', which IP is being used? Which port?

You can use JRemote, Panel, Gizmo or other remotes to play in a remote location.  You need to set up port forwarding on your router to forward port 52199 to the server in your home.  The wiki topic on Network Access has more information.

How do you know the external IP?

Thanks, I know how to figure this out, it is the address assigned by ISP.
My question was how JRiver knows what is its address and how it is encoded into the access key [out of curiosity]

The Access Key and the relative IP addresses are stored on a JRiver server.  When you use the Access Key, MC does a lookup from that server.

If the addresses change, MC picks that up and updates the server.  It takes a few minutes.
