Newbie here. I’m using over wifi to play music on my Cambridge Audio CXU player, using JRemote. My OS is Windows 10. The music sometimes plays the entire chosen album from my pc without any trouble, but also it stops many times after each track or a couple of tracks. Any solutions?

What type of connection? Is the Cambridge Audio player using DLNA or UPnP. If so, search here for SetNext or SetNextAVTransport. You can toggle it.

Thanks for pointing me to that thread (which I didn’t read before, although I searched). Will look into it and see if I need to change a setting and if that’ll help. Will report back.

Update: I saw that ‘setNextAVtransport’ was already ticked, so I ticked all other boxes in the section too. Now my renderer plays without any stops. So far so good. Thanks for the help.

After playing excellent for weeks, MC now cuts off tracks about 25 seconds before the end, and then starts the next track. I’ve been searching the forums, but can’t seem to find any solution. I’ve been on it for 2 days now, to no avail. Does anyone have a solution?

If it changed without changing settings in MC, then it's likely something is flakey. Your network is a possibility. Try power cycling all devices on the network.

Done that. Sorry to say it made no difference at all. It cuts off at the exact second everytime (which differs with every track; sometimes it stops halfway and then proceeds to the next track). The tracks aren’t truncated (foobar plays them to the full).
Let me explain how I play. I play DSF (DSD64) files over wifi to my Cambridge Audio CXU player. Until yesterday that worked perfectly. But not anymore.

What could I try now to solve this issue?

I’ve de-installed and re-installed MC26. Same result. Tried other settings on just about every setting there is, to no avail. I haven’t had a Win10 update, neither has my Cambridge CXU been updated recently. My set up played wonderful and without a glitch until yesterday. Then the trouble I described all of a sudden started. Can someone in the know please help me? I’m at my wits end here.

I´ve been perusing that section, but can´t seem to find anything like it. However, I did find this topic:

A buffering problem could cause the issue I have, I'm inclined to think.

When I used Wifi connection on a client (to a Netgear WiFi access point), although the speed connection was excellent and had no trouble streaming more than 1 Bluray (it synced at 1.3 Gbits), it consistently became unstable after 2 or 3 weeks and had then more trouble streaming properly (esp. when fast forwarding through a video). Rebooting the WiFi access point was the only solution to regain its full potential, no idea why.

My point is: have you tried, just for the sake of the experiment, to substitute your wireless connection with a long cable? Just to make sure it's not the network hardware that's at fault?

No, I haven’t. Good point though. It’s indeed a matter of exclusion of what might not be working as it should. The thing is: my pc/router are in the one room, my player is in the other. So, I’d need a very long cable. Will try nevertheless. Thanks!

I did buy once a 30 m cable to test a connection between a router and a media client that was at the complete opposite of the house... it was not a pretty sight for sure but when I saw that everything worked "glitch-free" when I used a wired connection, I was at least able to pinpoint the cause.

Took a while, but finally I’ve connected my Cambridge CXU by wire. The result is the same, the tracks cut off at the exact same time. So, what can I do now? I still think it might be possible that this is a buffering problem within MC26, like it has been described here: https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,114809.0.html. Can anyone at JRiver look into this? Thank you kindly.

What is the full version of MC that you are using? If not 26.0.30, please update.

I have Windows Defender disabled, because I’m using Kaspersky Total Security instead. Nevertheless I looked into Defender again, and apparently I hadn’t disabled it entirely. A recent Defender update must have caused the problem, I guess. Now I have Defender disabled entirely. I already had the latest MC26 release, so no problem there. To cut it short: problem seems to be solved, my DSF tracks are playing again, uninterrupted. At least for now, hopefully the problem won’t occur again. Thanks for the help.

Make sure to exclude all executables of MC from Kaspersky ... and exclude media folders too

There might be several places to exclude things ... things like on access scanning ... advance threat protection ... etc ... etc ... go through all Kaspersky settings very carefully ... and if there is settings to exclude or whitelist something ... exclude/whitelist all executables in MC26 folder and whitelist it and whitelist media folder

I don’t have Kaspersky ... but have BitDefenfer ... they work similarly ... once I excluded/whitelist MC and media stuff ... I have no problems whatsoever

You have to do this for all major MC upgrade (ie. going from 25 to 26 ... or 26 to 27)

And have this problem again? No, thank you. If I could, I’d avoid anything Micro$oft related like the plague

. Unfortunately everything I use is MS. Once your ICT is build on this, it’s hard and time consuming to change. And much of what I’m using doesn’t work with -say- Linux.

The thing is, even if you install a third-party antivirus, Windows Defender isn't fully disabled and will continue to run in the background to some extent. It's fully integrated into the Windows 10 OS. When it detects a third-party antivirus, it turns off its real-time protection, but it still runs in the background.

Also, the majority of antivirus issues with Media Center are with third-party antiviruses, like Bitdefender especially in the past. With Windows Defender it *can* cause issues (especially when a brand new major MC version is released) but otherwise it can be tamed pretty easily, and once tamed it doesn't really cause issues after that.

Also, Windows Defender is as good, if not better than most third-party antivirus applications according to third-party testing organizations. While once upon a time Windows Defender was considered a joke, Microsoft has done a good job improving it to the point where it's considered top-tier now. While people can purchase and use third-party antivirus/antimalware applications, these days there's really no need to as Windows Defender should be more than enough when it comes to antivirus/antimalware. Finally, it's built within Windows 10 itself, so it's overhead should be lower than most third-party antivirus applications.

And that's not going into the other part of Windows Defender, the Windows Defender Firewall.

I’m afraid my problems are still not over. The good news is that .flac files (which I play up to 24 bits 192 kHz) play interrupted. Even .dsf files (DSD64) play uninterrupted BUT these files stop at the end of every track. So, no consecutive tracks load. Mind you, I had the DSD64 .iso broken up in separate .dsf tracks.

I’ve configured Windows Defender meticulously as instructed. I made all necessary exclusions in Kaspersky Total Security as well.

I’ve tried various settings in the DLNA controller options section: all options on/off, options on/off one-by-one, options on/off in all possible combinations.
Still .dsf files stop at the end of each track.

What can I try next?
