MC26 will not connect to my handheld
« on: January 30, 2020, 02:21:36 am »

MC26 will not connect with my AK SE100.  Running iMac with Mojave 10.14.6.

Android File Transfer works just fine. That would seem to rule out any kind of hardware based problem.

The whole reason I bought MC26 was to make it easier to manage my handheld.
If it can't connect, MC26 is really worthless to me.

Can anyone provide insight or suggestions?

Search on the whole company name.  Use the advanced search or search with Google, adding JRiver.

It will need to show up as a USB mass storage device (you need to be able to see it in the Mac finder).

It doesn't regardless of how I configure the handheld.

Disclaimer:  I am a JRiver customer.  I am not affiliated with the company in any way.  Also, these are my limited experiences.  I have not touched any A&K players at all, but I have used others.

As far as I can tell, Android based players which use Android File Transfer, are not recognized by MC as handheld devices.  So they are not "managed by MC" at all.  So how do we use these players with MC?  It's a two or three step thing.

The approach is to make a folder on a hard disk that will receive media files from MC.  This is a staging area for files to by copied to the A&K.  Once the files are there, you then use Android File Transfer to copy those files from that staging folder to the A&K device.

Set up a "handheld" definition in MC:
Tools > Options > handheld > add device
Give it a name that makes sense.  Point the "path" to a *brand new empty folder" on your hard disk that will hold these files for later copy.

Now set up your handheld options for the playlist or playlists to transfer, etc, etc.  Do a sync.  This should copy the files you want to your shiny new Staging Folder.

Once the files are there, it's just like any other Android File copy.  Open Android File Transfer and copy the files, from the Staging Folder, to where they go on the A&K.

Deleting files from the A&K is a separate thing that you'll have to manage manually.

I hope this gets you started in the right direction.  Good luck!

Brian.
