Problem with flac playback after tag editing
« on: January 01, 2020, 03:26:00 pm »

Hello,

Editing the composer name in several flac files this morning with MC 26.0.14, with file update triggered by the tag update, the files then seem to become unplayable (both in MC and for other players).  MC ends up showing the message "Buffering 3%", with playback never starting.

Eventually, the error dialog "Something went wrong with playback" appears.

Restoring the flac files from backup, they are again playable.  Repeating the tag update and subsequent file update, the "Buffering" behavior then resumes.

Any thoughts?  Log file around the attempted playback attached.

Could you email me one of the FLAC files?  I'm matt at jriver.
  Thanks.

Thanks for the file.  I reproduced the problem and will try to figure it out after the holiday.  Thanks again.

Bump.  Just wondering where this will fall in the overall list of work to do for MC 26.  (Starting work again in January is always an adjustment.  :) )

Thanks!

Hi again.  Still wondering about this topic -- is it safe to go tag editing again?

Seems to be working.

I hadn't tried (and had turned tag updating off) since reporting the issue, and no relevant "Fixed" note appeared in the release notes for 26.  As the original problem made the file unplayable, any edits then required restoring from backup -- thus my question rather than just trying it.

The original flac file that you provided for testing appeared to be corrupt and any modification of tags caused it to corrupt further.  Unfortunately we have not been able to understand it better and thus we have not been able to make any changes.

Thanks for the additional information.

I don't recall now whether I used another program (mp3tag) to modify the files in question since I emailed them.  MC seems to be able to edit the files now without issue, so I can't explain it otherwise.  :)

At least you have the original file, which did seem to play without issue.
