MC 26.20 crashing issues with more clarity in the description
« on: February 04, 2020, 11:44:46 am »

Greetings:

Detailed description of issues and recent experience testing my new server.
MC suddenly quitting, even a few times while editing cover arts sitting in front of the PC (Goliathlinux)  with Asus rampage 5 10th edition. The server comes fitted with 128 gig on memory and a pair of RTX 2080 ti.
I am providing this detail, maybe it will help finding out where the memory leak is or why MC will suddenly quit even when i am not on the network. Each time MC quits, I run downstairs to check the wired and wireless connection. Surprisingly, since 12/132019, the wired and wireless had not disconnected. Let us rule out the network.

I also recently noticed that successful playback of 1080P and uhd titles does not only depend on the size of memory or the speed of the gpus installed.
The departed 1080P mkv title  via the network, will not open, it plays sound and the video just stays on, "stucke", on the screen I am using MO4media installed on the TV.
Another example of movies getting stuck  is the Gemini man uhd. Audio on screen, the video just stays on. I was thinking with all the memory and rtx gpus dual with nvlink, everything will play nicely.
Note: everything seems to play but getting past the opening of most titles is the issue right now.

Herre is the surprise:

Configured MO4media to use external program, then I selected VLC for android.
Pressing the down arrow key brings up a menu,. then you see "...", this takes me to some menus, which includes selecting "speed" adjustment. For the "departed" title, I tried "50", "55." and "60" settings. This was the way only to make  the  "departed", to play nice.

For the uhd title-- Gemini man, I have same experience, it will not play. It gets stuck on the opening screen, until I got to vlc to adjust the speed.

What I am thinking is MC may crash, when it detects it can not play a title over the network.

a question:  what is the maximum memory MC can use ?

May be a new memory aggregation is needed.
More PCs now come fitted with lots of memory. Maybe MC could be designed to use more available memory in the system.  I have 128 gig of memory, so memory use should not be a problem here.
It looks like whatever playback engine MC uses, there must be a way to adjust the playback speed for individual bluray titles.
So if Jremote2 is going to have android tv gui, it may have to be designed to use external playback engine such as VLC assuming  Jerome2 or MC is not going to have  vide player of its own.

Regarding the "copy and paste " option" I hope we can have the leisure of pasting "cover arts" via the Chrome browser.
I have manually edited over 2000 titles with 1080P bluray cover arts including uhd cover arts.  I am trying to make MC beautiful, keeping up with the spirit of "Pretty face or Eye candy"
It is painstaking doing this on Ubuntu. It takes several process to copy, save to a file, then called back the cover arts via "in file". In windows, it is just one step.

I will try 26.22 later.

Edit: 02/05/2020.
I tried 26.22, it still disconnects. But the wifi and  wired connections are in tack.
I see Last FM popping up, each time this occurs. Of course, by the time I come downstairs, the token expired. Does the disconnection has anything to do with Last FM?

Thanks.

George.

Interesting item about the last.fm.
I'd try disabling that and the lyrics lookup to see if that makes any difference.

copy and paste cover art images is at the top of the todo list.

Also, I have just gotten a rudimentary working paste of images into MC.
It needs some more work since X has a really bizarre way of transferring bitmaps of >256K off of the clipboard but smaller ones work in my debug build here.

Sorry for the delay in responding.
I disabled last FM,  MC does not exit or quit  Favorite" menu any longer.
The wifi and wired are always on, never had to reconnect.
But there is another bizarre behavior.
When playing Flac again via DLNA, the TV just shuts off out of nowhere. Powering up the tv , music will start and continue from where it powered itself off.
I have tried to see if this will affecrt video. It has not yet, only audio.

Thanks for looking at the cover arts issue and making it a priority.

Sorry, I woke up at 3.00 am to find out there is 26.0.23 update on the amd64 buster. Then I quickly sent you a pm, too lazy to go downstairs  compose on a bigger screen.
I am not on amd 64 Buster. I am on AMD64 19.10 .

I remember I installed  first MC Buster release on this Ubuntu O.S, it crashed. Why It crashed, I do not know.
So I did feel like fooling with it. {Remember I am not fully functional yet}, I went back to the 19.10 Ubuntu.
Is it ok or do you think I will have luck installing Burster on 19.10 Ubuntu ?
OR Should I wait for it to be available on 19.10?
I will be going to Best Buy Tuesday to get new uhd titles, I should be able to test as soon  ASAP.

Edit: I checked the size of the jpg, 24kb - 26kb on the average
I use Google to search for uhd and Blu ray cover arts, then copy and paste these custom cover arts on the file.

Thanks for taking the time to get this chore of custom cover arts simplified.

Take care.

The 26.0.23 Buster build is working fine here on Ubuntu 19.10. Try running mediacenter26 in a Terminal window and see what it says.

Thanks.

The current build will only do very small images.
I solved this today and will make a new build soon, I'd like to get the copy image TO clipboard working first. That one is pretty complex.

Excellent, thanks for the feedback!
Good.
We do not know why the Sony Bravia suddenly shuts down when listening to music via the network, then all it takes is pressing the power button on the remote to resume the music playback from the point it shuts off.
I must report that on video, it used to stop abruptly , one will have to start the movies all over again.
But I must report movies now do not seem to exhibit this behavior.
Whatever it is for movies,  it has fixed itself. This has been a long issue that has plagued several versions of MC 64 bit on Windows.
For this new AMD64, it is not .
I also noticed 1080P standard bluray titles have excellent pictures. I know there is no Madvr on Ubuntu (grin) !!. Is it due to the graphic cards Nvidia RTX 2080 ti ?
At times we still get a bit of buffering, just a bit (grin).
Again Thanks to all of you for  the hard work.
