How to transfer MC25 from old to new PC?
« on: February 22, 2020, 07:44:08 am »

Hello, need som help and some forum advice :)
At the moment I use MC 25 Master License for my 2 audio systems, Mac and PC Win 7.
Have replaced my old PC/Win 7 with a new PC/Win 10. My physical music library is located on external SSD's.
I have my latest library backup stored at old PC/Win 7.

First, how do I load my MC 25 version into my new PC/Win 10 easiest way?
Next, how do I get my library backup copied over to new PC, and how do I copy my old playlists easiest way?
Is there anything else i should think about and also going from Win7 to 10 upon transfer of license?

Last thing: Where can I find setup for PC/win10 and MC for best audio performance to my DAC?

Thanks in advance for any advice  :)

1. Make sure the path(s) to your media in your library are in the same location. Like if the music library was mounted at G:\Music on your Windows 7 PC, make sure it's also mounted at the same location, e.g. G:\Music in my example, on the Windows 10 PC.

2. Install MC25 on the new PC.

3. After doing a library backup on the Windows 7 PC running MC25, restore than library backup on the Windows 10 PC running MC25.

More info about library backup and restore: https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Library_Backup

That should restore your music library and playlists. Of course, like I said this works best if your files are located at the same location they are on the Windows 7 PC. All you'd have to do is rebuild thumbnails on the Windows 10 PC (if you have that enabled) and you should be good to go.

Thank you  :) but how to install?

Do I need to use install key or is it ok just to install last version MC25 and then go to help menu in MC 25 and fill in my registration code?

So there will be no problem to use MC registration code from PC with windows 7 at the new PC with Windows 10?  I thought it was important that my MC license for Win 7 must match the new PC Windows version? Or is it only the platform (Win, Mac or Linus) that has to be the same?

You can use one MC license of any version on all your Windows machines, within reason.  The version of MC must match the version of the license.

A Windows license won't work on Mac or vice versa.
