Video Trailers Still Broken? Try this...
« on: March 22, 2020, 02:11:34 am »

So, trailers on the server worked just fine, but on the HTPC... only the dreaded "There is nothing to play" message. What's up with that?

I found the plugin on the server, and for giggles, double clicked it. Just a flash of a CMD window. Fair enough.
Did the same on the HTPC, and that spawned an error message stating that MSVCR100.dll could not be found.... tadaaa

Solution:
Download and install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable package.

x86 - https://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=5555
x64 - http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=14632

I am also getting the "There is nothing to play" error for trailers, running MC 26.0.30. When I attempted to install the "Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable" from the OP's link, windows responded back that I already have a newer version.

The version from the OP's link is
  Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable package (version 10.0.30319.01).

The version already on my system is
  Microsoft Visual C++ 2010  x64 Redistributable SP1 (version 10.0.40219.01)

Had the same problem, and Marko kindly directed me here, but the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable package was already installed, and I'm on 26.0.56 that has the latest youtube fixes.

So trailers are still not working.

Just an additional note on the C++ Redistributable - it doesn't matter if your Windows is 64 or 32 bits, you should install both of the redistributables. 64-bit apps will need one of them, but 32-bit apps need the other one, regardless of OS bitness. So it doesn't hurt to install both.

Also doesn't hurt to install later versions too, other applications will need them (2012/2013/2015+). They're usually automatically installed, but sometimes they're removed by mistake when you uninstall some other application. You can get them all from here:

I'll fix the youtube-dl package next week so its no longer required to install this seperately.

Upgrading to MC 26.0.69 fixed the issue for me. I just did the upgrade, no other config changes and trailers are playing fine now. Thanks
