issues importing videos
« on: March 11, 2020, 07:27:16 pm »

I just downloaded MC 26 for my iMac (El Capitan).  After a couple crashes during initial import process (see attached screenshot), I think all of my music imported just fine and I can stream all using JRemote.  None of my video files imported though and after trying to manually import these files it still wouldn't import.  These files are mp4.  The only items I saw downloaded were these xml files (see attached screenshot) any help?

Are you running the most recent build from the top of the forum?

Also note that MC needs to download a libav component to be able to analyze video files which will do automatically on demand but of course it needs an internet connection.

I missed the new updated version and downloaded ver. 34 now but still had the same issues importing.  Not sure what this libav component is that you are referring to.  Can you please explain further?  This may be the issue.

Is the machine connected to the Internet?

MC downloads that component when connected. What are the file formats?

The majority are mp4 files.
Would you pull up a terminal and do the following?
ls -l ~/Library/Application\ Support/J\ River/Media\ Center\ 26/Plugins/mac_avcodec/

You should see this (not bob):

It looks fine.

Would you give the new build I just put up a try?
You will want to remove the bad library entries for the unrecognized files.

You can do that by going to the Playlist entry in the tree on the left side to smartlists.
Right-Click->Add smartlist
Change the name to
Removed or Bad
Click the X on the right side of the first rule to remove the rule.
Under "Modify Results" change the first field to "Limit database to"
and in the second field click on "bad" and "removed"
Click OK
You should see the unrecognized files in that playlist now.
Select them all and right-click then choose delete.
Refresh the view with the circular arrows at the top left of that view and if they re-appear repeat the select and delete.

Now go to your MC menu Tools->Import and re-run the auto import if you have setup Movies for auto import or just select the single folder for movies with import a single folder.

Report results!

I followed your steps and even configured import setting to analyze files and the import still came back with 0 new files.

Ok, that's weird.
Can you clear the bad/removed again then turn on logging and import with a single directory with just one or a few video files in it and attach the log or email it to me, bob (at) jriver (dot) com
Thanks.

That's not a very large log. Do you have it rotating at a small size? If so, bump that up, if not your info might be in the "Previous Log.txt" instead.
