Using 2 converter to convert the same files?
« on: April 28, 2003, 12:02:28 pm »

I have APE files that i want to convert to OGG 6 and Lame 192 ABR.
Can i open 2 programs to convert the SAME files to 2 different formats?
Let's say MC for APE to MP3
And DBpowerAmp to OGG.
Can a same file be converted to 2 different formats at the same time- if it happens- ?

If you don't get a file sharing violation, then I don't see why not. It may drop each encode down to half as fast, in which case you won't gain anything. But you may save a few keystrokes, clicks, etc.

edit: you could use the Monkeys Audio frontend if it can be driven by the almighty command line. I'm thinking a batch file that opens MA and converts the ape to Format 1, once finished (or maybe not if you can run multiple instances of it) the batch file tells it to convert the same ape to Format 2.

Matt...is this possible?

I may gain a lot:
Ape to OOG is fast
APE to MP3 lame is not.
If you do it overnight-[ in zevele's language ,overnight= when not at the computer }
You need much less than a night to convert it to OGG== you lost part of the time you are away
To convert to Lame ,you need overnightSSSS.
So i may have both convertions working each at  half speed for a while , but ,at one point , get convert to Lame at full speed - well way of speaking...- when convert to OGG finished.
To avoid Sharing Violation i may just need to start convert to OGG 10 or 15 minutes before convert to mp3.
There is NO WAY Lame may ever needs the same fie than the one being converting to OGG.

AS I TOLD MANY TIMES <ON THE TOP OF QUALITY <CONVERT TO OGG IS FAST FAST FAST

Sounds like you just answered your own question, then.

Start MAC or MC converting to OGG first, and once it's done with the first file, start dbpoweramp on it's job converting to MP3. Because of the different rates of speed, they should never overlap.

Unless LAME causes the APE->OGG process to slow down enough or something...

I meant in the sense that you have two CPU intensive processes running at the same time, then the processor will time slice between the two. Yes, your ogging will spit out files 4 or more times faster than your LAMEing.

BTW: If your running NT/W2k/XP, then you shouldn't get a sharing violation.

Doof

As you say.. i answered my  own question.
But i would not  have if not posting..funny.

If i start convert to OGG 10 minutes before i start to convert to Lame ,i feel i'am on the safe side.

In case you wonder , Cd to Ape and CD to OGG are about the same speed. And Ape to OGG as much fast.

I run 2000 so look like it will be ok
