Go into your MC Settings

Tools->Options->Media Network-> ... Access Key to verify it's what you are putting into JRemote (if it's not, change JRemote's settings)
If that is good, click on that access key and do: "test connection to this server". Unless you have setup outside access you will see "This Library Server is not reachable from the internet but you can still use it within your local network" ...

Let us know what you find.

Really does sound like a firewall issue.

What is your server MC running on and what is the client MC running on?

got it connected.

Is this Norton program (via comcast) installed on your Mac?  If so, it's unnecessary.  I would immediately uninstall that program.  I've used Macs for more than 10 years and never had an issue with any kind of "intrusion".  No viruses, no trojans, no nothing.

Of my various clients, friends, and relatives that have Macs, 2 of them have had trouble with unwanted software.  Want to know how the software got installed?

1.  Client clicked "yes" to install a program after he clicked on an ad saying "your computer might have viruses".  The program it installed was not legitimate.  I believe he also gave his password to do the installation!  I later fought with that program for about an hour and got it removed.

2.  Relative clicked on an ad that said 'you are infected, call this number'.  He called the phone number and let someone install a program remotely on his Mac.  The program turned out to be non-intrusive.  He didn't lose anything and was not financially compromised.  ...and he was able to remove that program and go on normally.

So, as long as you do not authorize the installation of programs, or the running of programs, you should be fine on a Mac without any 3rd party software.

I gave up on JRemote.  was getting the two address error. it just wouldn't connect at all.

I did uninstall Norton today, now the remote worked with the iPad and iPhone, but will it work tomorrow? fingers crossed

thanks for the tip
