Have Problem with my DAC and MC26
« on: April 16, 2020, 10:23:44 am »

I have a Mac Mini connected via USB to a Nuforce DAC/AMP.
I installed Media Center yesterday morning. Trying to find an alternative to iTunes/Music.
I use the displayport on the MAC to connect to my LG monitor.
When I startup a song on MC it changes the mac sound output to the LG Displayport from my Nuforce DAC. I stop MC and change the output back to the DAC. Restart the music and it switches to lg displayport again.
Ive changed the Tools/Options/Audio setting to the DAC which it still is. Why is the Mac sound settings changing to the displayport?

How would one fix this?

This setup works fine with iTunes. Ive spent 12h trying to get this to work correctly. Any suggestions?

This is what likely happens when MC has exclusive access to the audio output and macOS auto-switches to another audio output. Check in MC's Options > Audio for the device settings (when using the CoreAudio audio output for your device) and turn off exclusive mode.

The downside of this is no more bit-perfect audio output and you'll hear system sounds while playing back media in MC. I don't think there's a way you can get both working at the same time though, if MC has exclusive mode enabled macOS itself will switch to another output.

Thanks AD, I would imagine then without BIT Perfect it doesn't bypass all the MAC OSX glue in the audio stream. I switched off exclusive mode for the DAC. It no longer switches to the displayport output. I was happy till I played some of my music. Maybe its my imagination but the music doesn't sound as good to me now. Is that possible?
