audio playback error when using bluetooth headphones
« on: April 17, 2020, 02:10:22 pm »

i do not understand why i can't listen to a blu ray movie through my headphones using media center 26. this is the most frustrating part about this program.
you need some sort of p.h.d in audio engineering. there is nothing in the help files about headphone audio either. i have tried various settings, none work.
how am i supposed to know which mode/s settings to use?  ?

What kind of Blu-ray movies are you trying to watch? Discs? ISOs? Ripped MKVs? If discs, you'll need an app to decrypt the copy protection like AnyDVD or MakeMKV (which now supports decrypting discs for MC now too).

Just to expand on what AD said, it's the fault of the content industry and Microsoft that it's so hard to play blurays on your computer.

All Blurays are encrypted in such a way that Windows cannot read them, and so therefore neither can MC. You need a special decryption app for that.  You could buy something like PowerDVD, but it's terrible.

Things have become much easier lately though.  Download and install a free program called MakeMKV, and make sure you choose the decryption integration (libmmbd) during installation, or enable it afterwards on the Integration tab of preferences.

Once that is done, MC will immediately be able to play BluRay discs.  For your audio, just make sure you are downmixing correctly for your headphones.  You can google "jriver output format" for more info about that.

Good luck.

you have not understood the question, i have no problem playing blu ray discs, if i use my av amp as an audio device,  it makes no difference if they are iso or a disc.
what i was saying was that i cannot use my headphones, which are connected via bluetooth to play the same discs. i can listen to amazon or netflix via the headphones, but
i get the same audio playback error if i select them as an audio device in media center. i have tried every setting i can think of in the dsp section, but none of them work.

I see.  Well you didn't really ask much of a question, you just complained.  We interpreted what you really wanted as best we could.

Why don't you try stating clearly exactly what you're doing, the steps you take to switch the audio output device to your Bluetooth headphones, and the actual error message you get.  You keep referring to this error, but you never say exactly what the error message is. Quote it word for word, or a screenshot.   Maybe use the occasional capital letter so your post is easier to read.  :).

Screenshots would help, especially of the audio section of the JRiver options dialog, and of the output format section of DSP Studio.

I assume when you listen to Amazon or Netflix, it's through a web browser?  You didn't say.
You also didn't say if you can listen to regular audio files with your headphones in JRiver, or if your headphones don't work in JRiver at all.  You only mentioned bluray.  Do you get the same problem with standard definition DVDs too or just bluray?

As you can gather from my questions, there's a lot more helpful information left out of your post than you put in.  Help us help you.

There's nothing special about headphone output.  Windows presents headphones just like any other audio device, and all Windows audio devices have their share of glitches and limitations.  You think because you can't figure it out that it's rocket science, but I can assure you that's not the case.

Awesome Donkey and I are not employees of JRiver, we're trying to help you out of the goodness of our hearts, so keep that in mind.

With Bluetooth you may need to resample all audio to 48 kHz for it to work.

Well, he said he tried every option he could think of already...   ;D  It might be that, many devices have that issue, not just bluetooth.
