Please help with the recommended Video settings for MC 26? The PC has an Intel ASUS Z390 motherboard with i9 processing, 32 GB of ram with a Marantz AV 7701 processor.

Any input would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Michael

You're not really providing enough information to diagnose your problem.

A few general tips:

Selecting Red October Standard in Options->Video->General Video Settings->Video Mode    would be the preferred place to start in terms of recommended settings.

Turning on the VideoClock option would also be a good idea.

Enabling (or disabling) Hardware accelerate video decoding will also make a difference.

If you want more help diagnosing, you'll need to provide  more info, such as the video resolution you're running at, and screenshots of the options dialog I mentioned above, as well as a screenshot of the "Display Settings" area in the same dialog screen.

I ran into this problem recently with playback of certain 4K UHD files.
I tried testing them with VLC and the problem persisted.
I changed VLC advanced settings / File caching to 1000ms (from the default 300ms) and that fixed the stuttering and audio sync issues during playback.

Ok, back to JRiver.
Playing around with madVR queue sizes did nothing. Not worth messing around with those.
Simply enabling Hardware acceleration under JRiver Video Settings fixed the issue for me.

I use Red October HQ
Ryzen 5 3600
RX 5500XT 4GB
Denon X2600H

If you hit CTRL-J during playback you will see the diagnostics screen.
Take note of the rendering in milliseconds and the dropped frames count.
If the render times get too high the GPU/CPU can't keep up with the file bitrate and will drop frames which causes stutter.
Without HW accelerate enabled, I noticed spikes in the render times.
Now, it's smooth.

Thank You, that was great advice. I enabled accelerate video decoding and used the VideClock option. Also enabled shell integration with high-end Video card. Watched Ford vs Ferrari with no problem instead of it stuttering like crazy the night before. I saw some studdering in Charlies Angels 2019, to be honest, I'm sure if the studdering was not intentional for emphasis of the scene.  I would like to get all I can from my system with no future. So I would appreciate your input. I ook your advice and am going to upload the screenshots of my settings now.

You didn't provide any of the screenshots of the Media Center settings I asked for.

The screenshot you did provide doesn't help without the others.

I'm sorry I thought all four of these screenshots were posted earlier. My mistake

One last time.  You still didn't show the MC Display Settings.  It's in Video, under Advanced.

Nope.  Look in that picture. You should have clicked on where it said DISPLAY SETTINGS, expanded that, and screenshot that.  Oh well.

wer wants to see [Display Settings] ... you can see it in Video settings screenshot you provided ... but wer wants you to “expand” it (just click on [display setting] to “expand” it)

Personally ... I see you using Red October HQ ... so for me when playing problematic movie press Ctrl+j to bring rendering statistics and post screenshot of that

PS. 3gb on GPU seems a bit little of you outputting 4K resolution

tji,

Thank you for your input. Quick question the card I have is the 3 GB version they offer 6 GB version is it possible to upgrade the memory within my card tp 6 GB?  I'm going to remember that tip to hit Ctrl+J  if I run into any problems in the future. Basically the 32 GB of ram at 3,200 speed can't compensate directly to a video problem within the card.

Thanks,

Michael

I don’t think you can add VRAM to modern GPU ... and if buying new card - probably better go for newer cards 20 series or 16 series (if you going NVidia way)

You don’t have to wait for problem to occur to use ctr+j ... you probably remember which video has problem ... just play it ... press ctr+j ... wait a bit for stats to stabilize... then take screen shot

The important stat I want to see is rendering times ... to make sure your problem is not coming from too advance scaling algorithm that your GPU cannot handle fast enough

Tij,
I played a movie for a few minutes that previously had problems with Charlie's Angels 2019. I noticed the screen freeze for a moment, not a stutter in a non-action scene, so within a few seconds, I took the screenshot.

Something worth noting in Ford vs. Ferrari, before I made the changes below, the stuttering was horrible after the changes no problems at all. This screenshot happened after those changes below were made:

Enabling Hardware accelerate video decoding when possible and Video Clock in the Video options. In General, options enabled Shell integration selecting Hardware accelerated graphics: Highest quality (High-end hardware)

Side note: My OS is running on a 500GB Samsung V-NAND SSD 970 Plus NVMe M.2 with the additional M.2 slot left vacant.

Thank You for your help.

Correct, the only way to get more VRAM on a graphics card is to buy a new one that has more VRAM on it. Also adding a second graphics card for SLI or CrossFire won't "double your VRAM" either.

What’s your MC version? The present queue does not seems to be filling even though your rendering times looks ok. This was problem with old MadVR. Newest MC have newest stable MadVR that supposed to rectify that problem

EDIT: also you playing 23.976fps content at 60fps ... there will be some stuttering

The MC version is 26.0.56(64 bit). The native resolution for my display I believe is 60 fps and that's what Nvidia defaulted to in use default color settings. Should I change it to 24 fps or maybe use the Nvidia settings instead? Below is a link to my display a Pioneer Elite Kuro PRO-111FD if that helps.

Whoa, why is there downscaling of the 1080p source when your display is 1080p?

MadVR was upgraded in MC at ver 26.0.29

2. Changed: Updated Red October HQ to madVR to 0.92.17

Strange that your presentation queue is not filling up.

In PC terms … 23 refers to 23.976fps … 24 refers to actual 24fps

That's why wer wanted you to show Display Settings … to make sure you did it correctly … see attached my settings - try to set same for yourself (of course replace 4K resolution to HD to match your TV) … let us know if particular frame rate is not available in option, then can figure what to pick

As for downscaling in MadVR … try setting DPI setting of your Windows to 100% (something called scale text/item in Windows display settings) … then play any movie, see if MadVR is still downscaling

Cant figure out why rendering queue is not filling though … but lets set up refresh rates correctly and eliminate MadVR downscaling first … then figure our queue later … one step at a time

Either manually set those settings like mine (same refresh rate but change resolution from 4K to HD ... for desktop default setting it does not really matter so can put anything)

Or if you lazy to do custom like mine ... put Auto on ... yours is off now
