Can someone explain what it means that the 418 drivers will keep getting updated? Looking at the Nvidia download site the latest 418.91 is from February.
Also just so I'm clear on this; if I updated to the latest driver I could still output 3D if I change my madVR settings to Side-by-Side or Top-and-Bottom. The only drawback would be that I would have to manually change my TV to 3D mode? No loss in quality?
Thanks.
theoretically, it means NVidia will update 418 when it feels like it (most likely due to security reason)
I am outputting 3D as Top and Bottom
no there is no loss in quality (don't do side by side)
you will get 1080 vertical lines per eye on 4K screen
as original image was 1080p anyway
no loss in resolution
2 drawbacks actually
both easily overcome
(1) depending on TV
you might need to manually select 3D
side-by-side top-bottom (you can try this with 418 drivers too)
(2) when your 3D was outputted in frame pack
there was possibility you switch TV to 2D mode and watch movie in 2D
with MadVR outputting Top-Bottom
you disable 3D
and you get Top-Bottom image (so cannot watch in 2D)
Walk around is to create symbolic link to your rip ([mklink] in MS Windows
[link] in FreeBSD
goofle their syntax)
basically it creates a shortcut, but unlike shortcut it behaves like actual file
so your HDD have one copy of data
while your OS has two files pointing to that data
lets say in may case my 3D files have extension *.mk3d
I then create symbolic link to that file and just name it with extension *.mkv
then in madVR, I only enable 3D output if file extension is .mk3D (I usually create separate directory for symbolic link files to keep track on them)
ofcourse in your MC library you will have 2 version of movies listed (one for actual file
one for symbolic link one)
