The library displays an inconsistent set of entry counts:

After importing an artist directory there is a discrepancy in the count of the number of entries:

The library tree shows 109.505 files (s. attached "Library Tree with count.jpg")
Import of that directory shows 109.514 files (after import of 177 files) ("Lib entries after Import.jpg") -> 9 Files difference???

...and I'm, sure the wizards can explain it:  MC "updated 49 files that had external changes" , please note: before import I deleted (removed from library) the artist's directory) -before you ask: I had MC do the remove from library, no manual interaction with Finder.

and, thanks to Bob, I used a smartlist to
a) show the deleted or bad entries -> empty list ("Bad or removed lib entries.jpg")
b) show all entries (109.505), same as in the library tree

The smartlist internals: "Smartlist Bad and Removed internals.jpg" (just in case...)

If it's not a bug please enlighten me whether the library lost 9 files? Either case: the library count procedures need to be corrected!

I would guess you have 9 files that are a media type other than audio.  Just make a smartlist.

Good thought, but have a look at my import parameters:
"Import settings, top menu.jpg", "Lib Import, Audio Details.jpg"

With these settings how can the library import anything non-audio?

What about, when importing a directory that had been eliminated from the library how can it find 49 files the hat external changes?

Matt, I did what you said, I ran a smartlist on anything but audio.

It came up with 2 .cue files and 7 .mp4.  This explains the 9 files. Fine. That problem is solved

BUT WAIT: how can that happen? My audio parameters does not select .cue or .mp4. 

So is Import the bad guy that needs to be looked at?

mp4 is a funny one since it's also under video. MC seems to insist in turning it back on for one when it's selected in the other.
Not sure why you'd see the cue files though, perhaps they are under video too.
