I’m hoping I can play SACD ISO mch files from my JRiver 25(I think. The prev that came out last yr) windows 64 PC to either my Onkyo receiver
Or my Oppo 103. Is this possible? If so how would I need to connect the PC to one of those two? Thank you for your time.. KPC

Well, JRiver 25 will play ISOs.

There are a number of ways to connect your PC and Oppo to your receiver.  First experiment with the DACs in the receiver and the Oppo.  If you prefer the receiver then connect the digital outs from both the PC and the Oppo to the digital inputs on the receiver.  If you prefer the sound of the Oppo DAC then connect the digital out from the PC to the Oppo and the analog out from the Oppo to the receiver.

To playback SACD ISOs (DSD) without converting it to PCM, you'd need to check the Oppo's manual and see if it supports DSD over DLNA for example.

You could also add a DAC that specifically supports DSD.
Use JRiver to up-sample to the maximum (double, quad, etc.) that the DAC can handle.

If you upsample it goes through a PCM stage in the middle. If you're intending to playback DSD, I'd recommend just enabling DSD bitstreaming and using that.

Too much reliance on the DAC's ability to filter/shape for DSD64. Better to push artifacts away from the core range by up-sampling and then let DAC filter it without a fuss.

My question is... what would the recommended specs be for a NUC if the desire is to play SACD-ISOs from network storage?

I have a large library of such ISO's -- many multichannel -- and wish to put together a small device to access these and connect to my receiver via HDMI. I previously used a powerful HTPC that did this easily, but now that I'm considering something smaller, I'd like to hit the CPU requirements with headroom, but without too much overkill.

i5? 6 core i7?

The system will not be used for video... at most, perhaps, the Milkdrop2 plugin (if it is still compatible).

I don't have the ISO, but the DSF multi-channel file. I played Depeche Mode Enjoy The Silence on a NUC 7i3BNK with an i3-7100 CPU (2.4 Ghz) and 8GB of RAM. The file size was 749 MB. I set it to send out 6 channels of PCM at 192 kHz. JRiver loaded and started playback almost instantly and used between 3-7% CPU.

Probably Windows.  Just guessing.
