wher is the library stored?
I have tried looking in jriver to no avail

Look in Tools > Options > File Locations.

I see library backups but no library

As per https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Library#Location_on_Disk

C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Roaming\J River\Media Center <version>\Library

So the default Library in your MC26 installation is:
C:\Users\Jan\AppData\Roaming\J River\Media Center 26\Library

PS:
You can also just select the Library you want to know about under Playing Now, and its location will be shown at the top of the pane.

thanks I think I have it sussed now.
I just installed 26 and I was worried it wasnt using the correct library.
I think my issue was more were my backups were going.
Since I removed 24 my mapped drive had lost the backup and it took me forever to try and figure out how I did it before..
As you know I update everything on my office machine therefore I have to map the drives..
