Duplicates after auto import
« on: June 22, 2020, 11:11:05 pm »

I just moved MC 26 from Windows to Linux (Ubuntu 19.10), fresh install of everything. I restored my library backup, changed the paths in MC and everything looks and works great. Then I changed a tag on a file in one album and re-ripped another and now when I run auto-import, those two albums (and ONLY those two) create duplicates in MC. Is this a rights issue? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

It seems to add duplicates to everything new since restoring my old library.

Do the duplicate files have the same file path?

Yes, exactly the same path.

Just tried reimporting my library. Now the duplicates are spreading to other folders as well. One thing I noted after this import is that some of the paths have a \ and some have a /, despite my using the / when importing.

My library is stored on a hard drive in /mnt/HD/Music/ - not sure if that makes a difference.

Does the format of the drive matter? It's currently ext4, would NTFS make a difference?

What might matter is the driver used for NTFS or the mount location or even the mount permissions. I use ntfs-3g on my Arch Linux install for my NTFS drives (set up in fstab) with read/write permissions and I've never had this issue. I also mount my drive at specific locations too (also set in fstab). If using GNOME the Disks app can be used as a GUI to manually set up mounting (and the use of the ntfs-3g driver).

Formatted the drive as NTFS, imported old library, changed permission across all files so they match, and same behavior - duplicates but only for some files. Some files are noted as "can't locate", even after running "update library from tags" despite being right there in the folder. Really strange.
