MC9 not saving track number tag in WMA file?

Re-posting this question in a more succinct form than the original (now-deleted) thread:

MC doesn't seem to write the track number tag to WMA files. This is confirmed with both MC's "tag dump" feature and an independent tagging utility. This is important to me because all of my tracks play out of order in my jukebox if they don't have the track number tag filled in.

Searches haven't turned anything up. Is this a known issue? Is there a workaround?
