JRiver v26.0.98 - Weird end of track silence Gap Bug...
« on: July 06, 2020, 04:12:37 pm »

Since ever in every version of JRiver, I've been experiencing this weird bug at the end of a sequential album play when using a predefined silence gap. I have set up 3 seconds of silence to be added at the end of each track to record to a DAT that detects this silence and creates a track ID.

The issue happens after the first song is successfully played from an album and starts happening at the end of second song/track downwards. The first song plays ok, ends, 3 seconds of silence and then the next song. Now once the second song/track ends, it starts playing few seconds of the 3rd song/track(like a preview) and then it stops, inserts 3 seconds of silence and then it changes to the 3rd song/track and starts playing. When it ends it does the same thing again, plays a few seconds of the 4th song/track, stops, inserts 3 seconds gap and starts playing the 4th track. It does this at every end of the songs and it is driving me insane.

Here is a youtube video showing the problem:
https://youtu.be/lxaua_zCKDE

Can someone tell me if this is something on my end? or what can cause this? All I want to do is play each song of an album and add 3 seconds of silence at the end, that is all.

(If I select "Use Gapless for sequential album tracks" this does not happen)
Can this problem be related to buffers somehwere?

Do you mean the setting Switch tracks: Standard (gapped)?

I set mine to 3 seconds and played multiple tracks and the gap was perfect.

I had to turn off "Do not play silence" or else the interaction was a little weird.

Thanks for any more information.

Yes, sorry for the late reply, I missed the email notification. Was waiting for someone to address this for awhile...

Ok here are the steps to reproduce the problem.

1. We need a full image in a single file of a CD with a cue sheet that specifies each track in the image file.
(an Album.ape, Album.flac, etc)
2. Load the cue file into the library so the tracks will show.
3. Set Track Change, Switch Tracks Standard Gapped -4s (un-check the other follwing options or leave the "Do not play silence" if you need to)
4. Start playing first track or any track your prefer but do not interact with the playback, let the song finish and it will play ok, the problem starts after the first song plays and at the end of the second track/song. (any interaction even if you pause the song will prevent the bug from happening)
Once the second song finishes, it will start playing the begining of 3rd song/track for 4 seconds, then will stop add 4 seconds of silence and continue. This happens with all the rest of the tracks as long as you don't interact with it in any way. So do not try to skip to get closer to the end let each track finish.

It is driving me insane. I need this feature to work so I can record to DAT which needs that silence at the end to create a new ID/Track on tape automatically.

Also keep in mind that this only occurs on single file images of a CD, LP etc, not Albums that have each track in a separate file.

Can you test this and let me know. It is so weird because if we pause the songs and unpause then the problem does not occur and proper silence will be added correctly. Only unattended sequencial playback causes the bug. And the issue starts to happen on the next track because the first track is always interacted with when we start the playback.

I hope to have this fixed soon. Thank you!

Here is a video of the problem. Pay attention at the end of track 5. The electric guitar is not part of track 5. I re-arranged the tacks so we don't have to wait too long. I moved the tracks with the shortest play time up. Even if we re-arrange the tracks it will still play a few seconds of the next song in the image regardless of track re-arrangement. Whatever is next inside the image it will play that.

Sorry for the weird music had to find something with short track time so we dont have to wait on an entire song.

As a test, you might try the latest version available, 26.0.103, available here: https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,126364.0.html

I just did, version 26.0.103 has the same problem. The glitch has not been fixed unfortunately.
:-(

Do you have any music albums that are contained in a single audio file with corresponding tracks in a .cue sheet to test on your end?

I have tested this with an external DAC and the PC internal sound card, same issue.

Can you explain what this means "Standard Gapless -4s".

Gapless is a selection that does not have a duration.

Thanks.

I set that gap setting and playing my CUE file and it seemed fine.  I did turn off silence suppression between tracks.

What if you try gapless or a short fade?  Does it still happen?

Hmm, and your cue file was pointing to a large audio file containing all tracks, correct? And you let it play at least two songs as the issue starts to show up at the end of the second song...

If you are willing to investgate further, send me a PM so I can reply with a link for an album that I use to test here.

I really appreciate your time on this!

(will try that next) And no, when using gapless it does not happen.
