JRiver Uninstalling Itself
« on: July 18, 2020, 08:26:23 pm »

Everytime I try and open JRiver Media Center 26, I have to reinstall the software because it uninstalls itself in between uses.  I use a Windows 10 computer.  How do I fix this?  Thanks

MC doesn't uninstall itself between uses.

Either you are, or your security software of some sort is, or you are installing into a virtual machine and not saving the state of that VM before closing it.

By "reinstalling" do you mean when you select the MC icon the installation process kicks off?

Could be you are executing the installer file and not the program..?

Another thing that it could be is updates, which have confused a few folks over the years.  The updater looks a lot like an installer (including throwing a UAC prompt and using the words "install" on some of the dialog boxes).  If you have auto-update on, JRiver will install the update on the next launch and if you only turn on JRiver once or twice a week, that's about how often updates come out.

One way to figure out whether it's what Roderick and Scobie are suggesting or just an update is to close and reopen JRiver a few times in a row.  If you don't see it every time it may just be the updater.

Thank you for the responses.  The message I get when I try and open jriver is that it was installed for a different operating system and cannot be opened.  It used to work with my OS, but not anymore. Maybe a windows update changed things. When I run the windows compatibility function, I can get jriver to open, but this only works one time.  Maybe if I tried to update jriver it would work.
