Sound Blaster Audigy does not work with TV...
« on: April 20, 2003, 07:52:31 pm »

Well I found a rather annoying problem with the Sound Blaster Audigy card.  Apparently there is an issue with the line-in input on these cards.  If you mute the playback volume it also mutes the recording volume as well.

This is not how it is supposed to work but until Creative can come up with a fix (and I hope it is a software driver fix and not a hardware issue) you will need to use the microphone input to connect to your TV tuner card instead of the line-in input or the time-shifting functions of Media Center TV Tuner will not work correctly.

I just wanted to give any Sound Blaster Audigy users a heads up.  J River may want to make some note of this in the documentation for the TV Tuner when it is released.

Depends on the TV tuner card.

If we are talking about "cards" I am assuming it to be an internal ISA or PCI card plugged into the motherboard & not an external TV tuner.

I've owned 7 TV tuner cards over the years (yes, call me a glutton for punishment).

Most tuner cards offer some internal cable connections that should be used instead of the external line-in jack.

I'm currently using an ATI A-I-W 7500 with an Audigy Premium with no sound problems at all.

I do not use the line-in for the TV (I use that for the GemTek PCI FM tuner card which has no internal cable connections). Instead, I have an internal cable connected between the 7500's CD out & the Audigy's auxiliary in.  You can use any of the Audigy's internal inputs but the auxiliary seems to be the best one for TV input.
