Can't play ISO DVD movies
« on: July 23, 2020, 06:58:36 pm »

Hi

I'm running 26.0.102 on Catalina.

I've managed to get Media Centre to auto import ISO files and data files.
If I double click I can get the ISO to open.
The ISO is a movie and I want to play it. I can't seem to do it either within Media Center or by launching it outside the app. As a workaround I'm using the VLC player right now.

Any ideas? Please note I've got no issues with the Windows version.

Appreciated!

Right now the playback of ISOs containing video content doesn't work on Mac or on Linux. This is because on Media Center on Windows relies on Windows' components to mount and playback ISOs containing video content, which obviously isn't there on non-Windows platforms. JRiver would have to develop their own cross-platform solution from scratch, which seems like a big project hence why they haven't done so as of yet.

You'll have to use something like MakeMKV to rip the ISOs to MKV files to play them in MC.

Here's a couple topics explaining it: https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,122068.0.html and https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,117701.msg815092.html#msg815092

I don't work for JRiver... I help keep the forums safe from "male enhancements" and other sources of sketchy pharmaceuticals.

Ouch.

Isn't there a third party component that can be integrated...?
How about VLC integration for instance?
Thx.

How about using MKV?

I already have hundreds of ISO files already, sure I could extract, but I like the idea of it being under one file - easier to mange for me. I've been using ISO since forever - you aren't going to teach the old dog new tricks.

I guess I will be forced to use Windows.. but seriously, can we not have a right click/ "Play in VLC" or something?

Thx

I  think the consensus is that mkv files are a better solution.  They're one file.

On that basis you might as well abandon MP3 support! I'm sure people who use MP3 will be very happy!

Seriously all I use is ISO and FLAC files, occasionally WAV's. It's not a matter of what is best, it's what I use and I'd rather change the player rather than my files, or even the OS.
