Trouble Playing back ripped blu-ray and dvd's
« on: July 31, 2020, 07:09:24 am »

I'm ripping my music blu-ray and DVD's using MC to rip. I'm using JRemote and playing everything over an ethernet connection through my Oppo player. All my audio files play fine but when I try and open one of these video files it starts to try and just crashes back to the oppo home page each time.

What am i missing in settings to get this to play back?

I think you mean that the Oppo is crashing.  Correct?   That wouldn't be an MC problem.

Correct, it just won't play. I thought maybe I had a setting wrong within MC?

Which tool you use to bypass disc encryption when ripping on MC?

I think this is where I messed up. Do I need to re-rip everything now? I just downloaded dvdfab but I'm not sure how to integrate it into MC

Using MakeMKV, which has JRiver Media Center support via its new libmmbd integration, to decrypt/remove the copy protection is what I'd personally recommend.

Can you elaborate on this, please? Do we just need to check the MC box in MakeMkv integration, or do we need to check the Windows ones too?

Just use MakeMKV to rip

EDIT: unless you planning to play physical disc (in which case you need real time bypass) ... but if it’s just ripping ... simpler to just use makeMKV to rip

Stupid question but is the "backup" in makemkv the same as ripping the disk?

There are 3 main way to rip the disc lossless (you do not loose any quality on video and audio).

1. ISO image ... it’s copy of disc raw data into single .iso file ... technically this is most identical way of ripping ... but playing iso files require mounting them into virtual drives ... which can be difficult to set up ... especially if those .iso files are not on the same computer

2. folder rip - copies all files on disc in folder structure identical to folder structure on the disc (this is MakeMKV backup)

3. ripping into mkv container - here you selectively rip videos you want into separate mkv files (choosing which audio and subtitles to include) ... this one is useful if you do not care for disc menus and want to skip unwanted videos (extras like interviews etc) ... this is what MakeMKV does - letting you choose which video:audio/subtitles to rip

EDIT: some BD discs are 50GB ... yet main movie is only around 30GB ... so gives you idea on amount of space you can save ...

So think carefully what you want ... then go ahead and rip ... I personally hate disc menus ... waste my time ... so I personally rip into mkv

Careful with Dolby Vision though ... atm it’s unofficially supported one MakeMKV if you rip into mkv ... it is fully preserve if you rip into folder structure or iso

So I've tried both ways in makeMKV. All I can get to playback is stereo, I even chose the TrueHD track as the only audio track in MakeMKV. In JRemote it shows that the files are 8 channels but still only plays back in stereo. Do I have a setting wrong in MC maybe?
