Auto Import not stopping
« on: August 14, 2020, 08:39:32 am »

Hi. I'm getting a very strange problem in MC26.0.103. Auto Import won't stop. I am getting the same songs imported multiple times - for every song. The flac files are on a NAS server. However, the JRiver log shows something strange with the directory delineators - apparantly confusing '\' with '/'. See outpur form the log:

Any ideas?

Some further information. This is still continuing, and growing the library. I now have many duplicate entries for every song in my library. I have uninstalled MC26, and re-installed, then rebuilt the library - but to no avail.
The problem seems to stem from the ImportNew Files and the AnalyzeDrive: Drive does not exist entries in the log. Am I reading too much into the log entries to be suspicious of the swapping of the directory delimiters from '\\' to '//'?
This is running on Windows 10, so the '//' entries are correct, but not the '\\'.
I don't know if it is relevant, but I also have MC26 running as a Server on Linux, and I sometimes connect this Windows instance as a client to that server - that seems to work okay, but maybe is has screwed up a registry entry somehow.
When I uninstalled MC26, I was asked if I should remove MC library files, which I should not do if upgrading, so I didn't.
That will be my next step. I will be interested if anyone else has problems connecting MC between Windows and Linux.

Which protocol you use to share files?

I use FreeNAS (which uses FreeBSD) and use SMB to share to Windows PC with no problem

Hi tij. No, I am not sharing the files at all. The MC26 instance on Linux is self-contained, reading the music files from the NAS drive. This sends audio to other devices around the house using DLNA. My Windows MC instance is also self-contained with its own library, but sometimes I use this to connect to the Linux instance as a Client. That is an MC client to an MC server. This all appears to work correctly. I just wondered if it had affected the Windows instance in some way, given the strange file delimiters that I am seeing.

What OS your NAS runs ... and which protocol you use for Linux to access your NAS?

This question might be better ask at Linux section of MC ... since it seems your MC that is having trouble is running on Linux

... and Linux have very different way to connect to NAS than Windows .. so ppl in Window forum might not be much of the help

that / and \ awfully look like different file sharing protocols might be involved

Hi. I have now uninstalled the MC instance on Windows, and this time also removed the library files.
Now when I re-install, it all works correctly. So, I must have had a corruption in the Windows MC library files, presumably caused by connecting as a client over Media Server to my instance of MC on Linux.
I am nervous about trying that again, so I might leave it for now.
But I would be interested if anyone else runs an MC server on Linux, and connects to it from a Windows client (renderer), and also uses that Windows instance as a host to its own library (not at the same time, obviously).

tij : Thanks for your input, but the problem was at the Windows end, not the Linux end, and happened when running locally (i.e not connected to the Linux instance).

You original log file showed running on windows shouldn't have showed any "//". That's never a valid path on windows.

I'm at a bit of a loss to explain what's going on here. When you connect to MC on linux as a library server client, the linux path would contain / but that library is separate from the main library on your windows 10 machine.

It does sound as if there might be something odd going on with the registry entries though. Perhaps you could send us a backup of the library that was malfunctioning? You should have one if MC's making automatic backups.
If you have one could you email it to bob (at) jriver (dot) com?
Thanks.
